*** car battery charger help ***

Hi all... I have a large output car battery which i want to use to build  a charging station in the boot space of my car, what i am looking for is a battery charger that i can plug into a standard cigar lighter socket to charge the battery and keep it topped up so i can use my multi lipo charger to charge while out and about. Can anyone recommend a decent item to do this ???

Not easy to do
First is the battery a leisure battery ( deep discharge ) ordinary car battery won';t be any good after a short time
You can charge off car supply simpley by linking car bat to charge bat as long as your car is running or it will soon flatten car bat this way you have no control over charge rate ect
Next way is to use a small inverter 12 to 240 then plug in small charger
Or you could fit a split charge relay used for a caravan ect

You need a split charge relay so it only charges when the engine is running.  About £12 on Ebay.

..................and don';t leave the car unattended when charging...cars have been lost doing that when the battery has self-destructed!!

If you have a ';spare'; car battery then use that coupled to a smart split charge relay , 2 wires off the main battery with an inline fuse on the + terminal main battery end  (voltron ebay , I use loads of them) .. deep discharge (i.e Leisure) battery isnt really that much of an issue as you will be constantly topping it up whilst driving

as batteries do vent whilst charging you should also add a vent pipe, and ensure the battery is well secured !
