My new venture (sort of on topic)

Not really commercial as I ain';t selling anything (yet) so hopefully ok to post here   ::)

As some of you will know I';ve been at the sharp end of leading the brushless gimbal revolution - though 2 axis to 3 axis, brugi, alexmos, evvGC, etc

And I';ve been always working with 2 aims in mind:

1. RC (which is well attended to by the market)
2. action sports (in particular paragliding and paramotoring) - which are not at all, due to a number of technical factors.

Anyway, I';ve started a new company and am busy developing a 3 axis, helmet mounted gopro stablizier (Stubilizer after me - stu) for action sports use.

You can read all about it on my website:

www.rocksolid-tech.com

I';ve been madly CAD designing and 3d printing for the last 2 weeks, but still have lots and lots to do before I take it to kickstarter.

Ideally I could do with a partner with strong specific electronic skills with one or more of the existing gimbal controllers (though I am in talks with Alex of alexmos fame, and another designer who has worked with Martinez), and someone with experience designing and manufacturing injection moulded plastic parts - so if any of you feel you fit the bill, let talk.

Otherwise, I just thought you guys might be interested in how I';m putting my new 3d printer to use, along with the experience I';ve gained with brushless gimbals in the last year or so.

That looks brilliant! I really like the idea (if I';m seeing it correctly) that the gimbal attaches to the gopro mount, so that you can swap the gopro out, put the gimbal on the mount, then attach the gopro to the gimbal. I reckon that could be a prettty nice feature for those of us more interested in the multi-rotor side of things too. Would let you have stable footage when you want, and some rock and roll action when you take the mood!

An awesome project Stu, I';m sure it will go well. There can be no end of applications for such a device. It looks absolutely stunning.  Have you had thoughts about waterproofing (even for your Paramotor/paraglider) activities?

I can imagine any number of parallel activities - Horse riding, mountain/enduro cycling, pretty much anything that throws the participant or their vehicle about.  This could go far  ~~

thanks guys.

Waterproof is something lots of folk want - but I can';t see it happening initially - it would just cost far too much and need far too much manufacturing know how that I don';t have even to get an IP6. Maybe it can be a future version if it does well.

Yeh, the idea is it';s a straight gopro mount, and it keeps the protective case. So anywhere you currently have a gopro mounted horizontally, you can plug this in instead.

pole mount, helmet mount, bike mount probably the main ones initially.

It has to be plug and play for the average sports joe. no computer USB stuff, no lipos, no ';setting up'; - just plugin and go.

It';s been a pretty much vertical learning curve with SolidWorks to build the CAD files - you can';t see in my renders but it is designed to all clip apart hiding wires, motors, etc, etc all inside to give the clean more ';production'; i-robot look.

As I say thought there is a long way to go. I kinda lost the will to live by end of last week, as I';d spend from Boxing day solid working 8-10 hours a day on CAD and 3d printing.. and as
you 3d printers will know... you design a part, triple check it is all the way you want it, printi it out over the next hour... and then find out you put the holes in the wrong side, have to bin it, and start again... I';ve got 4 shoe boxes full of scrap plastic so far. and by friday there I never wanted to see another 3d print again.

However, had some time off working on the electronics side and have calmed down again.
