WIFI controlled cameras from Sony

I was wondering if anyone is using one of these for aerial use yet ?

iOS and android apps available. here';s the android one:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sony.playmemories.mobile&hl=en_GB

compatible with certain new wifi enabled sony cameras.

even allows zoom. focusing, etc.

I';d have thought they would be an absolute killer feature for those of you using ';real'; (i.e. non gopro size) cameras for aerial use

You';d even get video preview from the camera so no need to faff about with an analogue video out from your camera, etc...

surprised no one has really mentioned them yet tbh.

hi stu...thats a new one LOL !!! what a radical idea. will have to look into this as it does look like an elegant solution over the gopro.

you';ll run out of range for aerial use i';m afraid

wi-fi range is really limited compared to our flying range.

Sure,  but for some client work it would be ideal (my gopro wifi works over 300 feet)  and even if going outside that range it allows camera to be setup before the shot without landing,  etc

I';m not suggesting this would be your Fpv camera.

There is that set it up before take for the fine tune or a quick flight tune...

Its no different to a gopro just set it running before takeoff !!! Half the price of a gopro though and has a zoom lens which is the gopro,s biggest let down !!!

My concern with wifi is that it tends to work on either 2.4GHz or 5.8GHz. Something to consider relative to your other radio systems used for controlling the craft!

I ordered the Sony HDR-AS30 Action Cam from Extak Ltd online about 2months ago now and was shafted like many others. Luckily I managed to get my money back. The main feature I was lookin'; forward to was steadyshot which I thought would be advantageous on a multi.

I couldn';t wait any longer (I';ve been multi-less for 3 weeks whilst moving) so decided to just grab the GPblack from argos locally. The specs of the GPblack are slightly higher than the HDR-AS30 but no doubt there are higher spec';d Sonys aswell :)
