Alexmos Gimbal and Power Supply

Hiya,

I';m trying to work out the best way to power my DesireRC alexmos controller board.

DesireRC';s website says that the best way is via a separate 3s battery, but this weighs 45g and I hate carrying unneeded weight. It also says the alexmos board can accept input up to 14.8 volts, but they don';t recommend more pushing in more than 12v.

My question is...

1. My tbs has a core chip set to 12v output for the FPV camera and 12v output for the VTX. So, I';m already using both these 12v supplies. IS IT OK for me to tap into one of these 12v output and use it to power my alexmos board?

OR

2. Do I need a 12v Voltage Regulator 11g soldered onto the bottom plate 16+v output.

OR

3. Is a separate battery the better option.

Thanks for your help.

I can';t see the controller as drawing a lot of current so I should imagine it';s ok to tap into your existing 12v feeds.

I bought a 800mah 3S just to power my gimbal, as I';m lucky in that weight is not a major issue, and JST plug fits straight to my board (rctimer martinez)

The motor drivers on the board are rated for upto 2A each which is way too much for the TBS Core.
The DesireRC boards are a bit different form others with built in Bluetooth etc but all the other boards run happily off 4S.

Thanks for all your input guys.

What do you all think to a voltage regulator from the main battery. I am running on a 4s 4000.

Thanks.

I';ve been wondering this as well as i';m about to buy a brushless for the new gopro and, i';m keen to avoid any extra weight.

Can some one clarify for me that the power fr the motors comes via the control board

Having just got an Alexmos board (bit of British support) the power connector on the board as standard is for a 3S balance plug! I';m sure there are connections that can be soldered on for just a + and - wire. Doesn';t this indicate that it can be powered from the flight battery if 3S without problems?

I hope so! :hmm:

Hi Chris,

Although it powered via a 3S balance lead you can power it using the + and - of the balance lead (i.e. the two outer cables). I have just purchased a volt reg 12v which I will connect this way. I';m reluctant to toake power from the board as this is 16v and the alexmos shouldn';t have more than 12v.
