Here is an early video of Minsoo Kim testing his VTOL (vertical take off lander) it uses the same technology as multi rotors except the gyro's control the surfaces at the bottom of the air craft rather than the rotors, control is achieved because of the rapid air flow over the surfaces even though the air craft isn't moving.

Minsoo kim was a pioneer in the world of multi rotors but he seems to have dropped of the map now  :-\

looks fun but don't think I would build one.  I mean where does the GoPro go? lol

its great to see gyros being used for this and I'm not knocking it but been doing the same for years without gyros look up sumo 3d on rcg
