EMax "Transporter" HDZero Box Goggles

OK, brief start post.

I have some in my hands, having bought. Currently wish I hadn't.

They have really done a number here, I have fifteen various goggles from DJI V2 HD through to Eachine 006 (£18 when bought), and these are the worst by far, totally impossible to gain adequate focus.

Even cheap HobbyKing Quanum Cyclops work OK and have a decent focus range. these do NOT.

Currently these are ONLY usable as the separated screen, and then only indoors as no shield and not bright enough.

I don't want range etc, I want clear HD on Indoor and Garden 65 and 75 Tiny Whoops.

EXTREMELY disappointing.

Be advised so far my experience is

More later.

I try :-)

Be warned, I have fired up the 3D printer................

OK, a summary.

There are TWO issues with it as supplied:-

1. The focus range is plain wrong, insufficient distance between fresnel and screen.
2. The Fresnel Lens is poor quality and causes fuzzy imaging.

After trying a variety of cures, I have cannbilised a GearBest headset, one that was beginning to show failed pixel lines, removed all the analogue gear, and the self contained EMAX screen unit will be magnet fitted (as to the std housing) onto a 3D print housing glued to the front of the GearBest housing.

When I started FPV (which had not been around very long in public access terma) and realised I liked it, I did so with a FlySky Tx/Rx Combo, 5" Diatone "Hurricane and HKing Quanum EPP Headset.

Well, me being me,  I immediately looked around for budget but better, and discovered a headset being sold by GearBest ( a model long gone now). This used a 5" car reversing screen via a fresnel lens with knurled screw focus adjustment and a comfortable well fitting faceplate.  I had to extend its focus length marginally as like most of the early Chinese breed it was inadequate on focus range. While this came with an OK ish onboard VRX, I quickly fitted a Lumenier diversity VRX on top of it, and a HKing DVR.

This was £65 or so, then the top of range £55 Diversity VRX I added "because I could".

This worked so well I bought and made another as a spare and watchalong unit.  Flying buddy bought one too, and this is still used by him, whereas mine dropped down to school club use, and I went on the use mostly EV200D's or a 5" Eachine screen that cost under £35.

When it became obvious on receipt and trial that the EMax Transporter2 HDZero headset was a  bad unit, and not only not easily extended for focus but had such a bad fresnel lens, I went back to the Gearbest unit, and hand held the HDZero screen to see what the Gearbest housing and fresnel looked like, the answer being MUCH better.

SO, I removed a rectangle from the front hinged plastic access door, made a 3D printed adaptor that fitted the screen better holding it without magnets, but then added 10x5mm flat magnets sunk into the adaptor aligned to the EMax ones in the screen for extra security, and glued this to the front plate. So I still have instant conversion from headset to screen if required.

The higher magnification and larger dimension fresnel lens works PERFECTLY with the EMax screen, its comfortable to wear, and I'm writing this in "smug mode" having just been happily thrashing the Mob6 HDZero around my two story solid double brick walled  house, flying with a nice clear focussed HD image, the screen still being set in default 25mW mode.

Yay!!!    :D  :D

Now to make up a USB C to USB connection at the right length to optionally fit a 5v power bank to the rear strap where I used to locate an 1800mAh 2S with analogue, in case I need longer than the internal battery duration provides.

Anybody want to buy a new unused EMax Transporter2 housing, going cheap....................... Highly desirable object, entirely suitable for plastic recycling  :whistling:

It's like Emax went back in time and forgot that people need decent focus adjustment and a quality lens.
Good to see you made use of the components.
I try :-)

Thought you might like to see freeze frame pic of worst flickering from video image yesterday at school while flying around in 6th form common room. (Screen Grab from Video).

Metal frame building, lots of spurious signal, school WiFi, remote alarms, large WiFi display screens, etc.  The shutter to the right is of course metal, then behind that's a sub-kitchen for the 6th form with lots of metal urns, racks, etc, then another closed shutter, then an inner wall, then loads of chairs up on tables in the main Refectory, then seven other quads flying, two of them analogue FPV, and I'm sitting down amongst it all right over by the furthest windows, so there's LOTS of breaks to and interference with signal path, LOTS of opportunity for multi pathing. Also this was recorded on EMax Transporter2 DVR, and we all know onboard DVR's are heavily price limited!

The top most line is the Transporter's OSD, so that is goggles battery, etc. Have not experimented yet with channels, its still on Race1 25mW as supplied.

Couple of old RHCP antenna one FatShark and one indeterminate!

Note: despite moving fast, its a pretty sharp image ignoring the pixel flicker and the quad still has 36% throttle left in reserve. And 3 out of 5 bars on both antenna input. This was right at the end of the quad's battery duration, note 3:19 min fly time.  It actually went LVC as I got back into the Refectory out of sight round to the right through a doorway, no surprise........... but it was a good test of signal strength at lowest battery voltage!

That looks a quite decent picture for the environment. Did you compare to analogue?

Not that day, but have flown analogue a LOT in the refectory area, and multi-pathing flicker is a real issue.  I have never gone through from Refectory into the area of that photo before though, the quad would not have made it with that much between quad and video receiver.  There will be links here likely back in this thread to old video of analogue in that area.

Seems HDZero at least from the Mob6 and Transporter goggles viewpoint is able to work through quite a bit of interference and skip, but seems to minimally but quite noticebly pixellate quite a bot of the time.

Have to remember and allow for the fact that the Mob6 HDZero's antenna is 12/13mm of transparent covered wire, the whole quad only weighs 23g, and to maximise flight time, its only on 25mW!

Working on video samples now!

Bad Raven

Notes:

At this early testing stage VRX antennas were a really old analogue intended Fat Shark RHCP and a small supposedly RHCP originating AFAICR from the EMax Sport Hawk.

Power is default 25mW

As you will see, in the Refectory there was a LOT of signal sapping clutter (inc boys!) between me sitting with headset almost sideways.  Then add the walls, shutters, etc to the area of the static frame grab AND the fact the battery was about depleted.  The rainbow "cut" which I have left in was LVC on the quad @ a bit under 3v! (batteries instantly recovered to between 3.7 and 3.9v)

FYI, Due to a school admin foul up, with them not doing what they said they would, boys were not told that there was an enforced change of day this week, so I only had seven, ones who I swear would be there 24/7 waiting in case I arrived if I checked!

They managed to get through over 75 batteries and most of my patience though in two hours!  :whistling:

AND on the outdoor section, note how the pixellation was worse with quad going away than with quad coming towards?

ched

Nice, I was hoping you would try going under the table  :D . The signal does seem very good considering the environment.
75 batts and all your patience
