Happymodel OVX300 VTX - OpenVTx

perhaps not so impressive given BR's thread (here) showing HappyModel's QC fails, but this:

looks quite interesting because of it running OpenVTx which talks both IRC TRAMP & TBS SmartAudio.  I'm not clear if it's an open source hardware design like the ELRS Tx/Rx modules, but intriguing nonetheless.

Well, after enlarging freeze frames of either side of that board, its certainly not as bad as the Rx highlighted in my post/MAD's video, but its not good, with displaced components, stray flux, and a few solder "joints" that are not the usual standard we should expect.

If you can handle their boards without picking up glassfibre strands from the crudely "broken off the master sheet" board edges, you'd be doing well, too!

I VERY much doubt these products are UKCA, the post BREXIT from Jan 21 UK version of CE.  I'm watching, but staying well away for now.

Particularly the VTX side of the house IMO fails to offer sufficient inducement to offset the risks attached to such at this time obviously low quality no quality control hardware.

You use one of other of the two mainstream VTX protocols, you set it in Betaflight, and you never go back, so what real gain is there? Cost?  Not when there's the obvious higher risk of model loss and even poss injury.

Frankly, as it stands from these examples, I don't want any buzzing around near me, thanks!

tbh, it's probably no worse than the Eachine VTx's I have in some of my models.

I'll be interested to see whether Matek come out with something based on this standard - they are doing ELRS Rx's & CRSF-to-PWM converters now so it seems like they're getting into the RF side of the hobby.

At the risk of prolonging the agony, I have innumerable FC, AIO, Camera, micro Rx and VRX of various sizes marketed (they make nothing AFAICS) by Banggood and mostly branded Eachine.  A good example of the quality is the Eachine E010 Quad, where I remove both the FC and Tx boards, making changes to the Tx Boards for two stick hovercraft control.  I therefore get a very close look at both boards under the mag lamp.

Number?  Must exceed 300 E010/JJRC36 (made by WGXT or some such) to date.  Never seen a single miss placed component or bad solder joint.  Add in the E011's (made by Bayang) and E013S and E016H, and its nearer 400. Nothing even slightly amiss found on any of them either.

The tiny camera AIOs are the smallest and nearest size wise, but with over 30 in my possession, and many handled via the school boys own units, they have all been fine, too.

As MAD says in his video, there is NO point being the cheapest if you are also the worst, so Happymodel really do need to step up a gear!
