What flight controller

What flight controller is preferred for 250 builds?

Naze32 full
Naze32 acro
Cc3d?
Any others?

Hands0n

Naze32 Full. Or a Flip32+ for the price of a Naze32 Acro (typically).

Others to consider - if you fancy something bit more powerful, more uarts etc, try a Sparky (runs Cleanflight).

I guess it depends on what you';re wanting to do.  If you want something absolutely simple, bulletproof and easy to fly, no acro, just pure stabilization then around £13 will get you a QQ flight controller - also available on EBay and elsewhere http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__65595__Thunder_QQ_Super_Multi_Rotor_Flight_Controller.html?gclid=Cj0KEQjwi-moBRDL4Omf9d_LndMBEiQAQtFf81imgDhKEXdyD7Wb-97Ldoys-3f8A4B4gEvDLibiOfsaAj5C8P8HAQ

Naze32 acro rock solid on a 250 21 quid on flea bay just got my second one in the post today for my backup racer ~~ and I';ve tried the QQ and the kk latest version naze wins hands down other fc';s are available

Friskle

Had a CC3D, yes i know others find them ok, but i could "never" get rid of small oscillations, and got sick of trying, so went Acro Naze 32 on it, from the off, it was virtually spot on, merely just had to up the response, the other has a KK2.1 ( STD size ) that flies extremely well, but the Naze still flies so much better.

if needed i would get another Naze32 tomorrow.

I have been using a full Naze32 on mine, until a couple of days ago when trying to resolder some pins again, it shorted itself out.
I have a spare Naze32 acro and a cc3d.  So tempted to go for the acro.  What will I lose from the full to acro Naze32?

No Baro or Mag.  You';ll have Gyro and Accelerometers, however. So Horizon and Angle will be available to you.  GPS_Home, GPS_Hold and Alt_Hold, Mag  will not.

If you are just chucking a 20 around then you don';t need the full naze32, acro or horizon flight modes will do.

I would say that it all depends on what it is you';re trying or wanting to do.

I concur with the above if you have absolutely no intentions of requiring any automated flight such as Loiter or Return to Launch/Home.

But for me, these two things represent safety nets should something go wrong in terms of loss of perspective (ie. which blimmin way is it facing?).  I tend to fly even on windy days, yes I know, but this is Blighty, so having such a capability as GPS_Hold (nee Loiter) is invaluable - even if it is performing ruddy great toilet bowls ::) At least it isn';t bu99ering off to the middle of the Indian Ocean or wherever it has its heart';s intend on .

Normally, with a 250, I';m either in Horizon mode or doing my best to not stuff it into the dirt using Acro mode.  The Naze32 Acro is above and beyond the call of duty for that kind of flight ~~

The CC3D can be found for cheap for under £12 here http://www.banggood.com/OpenPilot-CC3D-Flight-Controller-STM32-32-bit-Flexiport-p-937044.html and it works OK although I haven';t tried any others.

Panther

I will buy this before another Naze . It is also cheaper and better quality control in the build and apparently better components used although it is a clone of the Naze.
The Acro is a lot cheaper as well.

The main uP and sensors will be the same but the caps resistors oscillators could be different but they might not make much of a difference. Not that us mere mortals could tell anyway.

el cheapo cc3d works ok for me.  ~~

very user friendly software and pretty stable in flight. saying that i have got an el cheapo flip32+ waiting to go in next 250, just to see what the cleanflight thing is about

cc3d in action last night, trying rate mode for first time indoors

i';ve got a flip 32 full, but i';ve not set it up yet. i';ll put clean flight on it and see what happens. i';m a complete numpty with IT, so it may all go pete tong!

naze changed my life, wouldn';t fly anything else, unless a game changer comes along

gilly

for wanging a 250 round the sky you can';t beat a Naze 32 acro! if you some how manage to break it it';s only £20 to replace.

everyone';s different and like many have said it depends on what your planning to do with it to what you choose.

If your planning to fly it like you stole it and do cool stuff like finding out the smallest gap you can fly through at the highest speed or how many throttle off rotations you can fit in before it';s too late to recover i wouldn';t bother with GPS or anything like that, it';s just something else to break and something else to replace when you do smash in. just ram an LED DRL on the back and some LED strip on the arms and it';s almost impossible to loose orientation (you can also freak out the UFO chasing weirdo';s with some inventive night flying )

If however your wanting to just fly around sensibly  and have a bit of an explore or your wanting a practice craft with a mind to move up to the bigger machines or you just wan';t a project with some progression in it then consider getting one of the fancier boards ~~

Hmmm.... I think I might be tempted to cross over to a Naze. I';ve been beating my head against my cute little black NanoWii board for a couple of years now and just can';t seem to get it dialed in right.

I';d be happy to flog my 2 boards to anyone that wants them. I was really drawn to MultiWii because of the open source nature. But having just seen RCModelReviews sing the from the rooftops about the Naze, I think I';m in.

I';ll see if I can put up a for-sale for my boards (one has mag and baro attached).

I';m pretty sure Naze is a version of multi-wii but it';s most definitely still opensource. either way buddy you can';t go wrong with em  ~~

Hands0n

Naze32 is a 32bit processor based FC. The flight controller software, Baseflight and derivatives like Cleanflight, are essentially 32bit rewrites of MultiWii code. They';ve moved on quite a bit of course.

Also now available fully compatible Naze32 "clones" such as Armattan and (my favourite) Flip32+ that are cheaper and binary compatible.

And there';s more :-)

Hansdon, Gilly: Yeah, I did a little more research and I';m pretty pleased that Naze seems to be a cousin of MultiWii. Definitely gonna go for it. At the very least, I';ll get a slightly tidier set of wiring with the mag and baro on-board. I even saw that you can use the MW GUI to tweak the Naze - pretty cute.

Base flight and Clean flight are the main GUI';s used for these awesome little things, I';m a clean flight user myself, I just found it had options and support for more stuff but they are both pretty good and easy to use  ::)
