FrSky vs the world!!!!

It appears that FrSky are bullying their sellers!!! According to Josh B FrSky have sent their sellers an email basically saying either stop selling the Jumper T16 or we will stop supplying you FrSky products!!!
They are suggesting that the Jumper T16 is a copy of their x10!!! OK so it will use the same architecture as dictated by OpenTX but other than that the circuit boards are completely different as are the cases.

Also it seems like FrSky have just released a new budget tx called the Taranis X9 Lite. Basically it seems like a budget version of the qx7 without sliders but running new tx protocol called ACCESS and it's currently on pre order at Taranis X9 Lite £55

Anyway seems very underhanded business practices to stop someone selling a radio with Open Source OpenTX!
I try :-)

A few years ago car dealers were one maker only it was the business norm. While some still are, there are many now who sell multi manufacturer (one near me is Hyundai, Vauxhall and Suzuki). Can they really support all three well enough? Experience suggests not!

If you choose (or are selected from applicants) to be one of a very few maker's dealers in a country I do not think it unreasonable for the maker to not want you also selling the potential competition.

Also, having recently seen and suffered to some extent the pretty big problems arising from a model shop selling a radio make to a newbie that nobody else has here and worse, one with little or no tech backup, its a real issue.

I did have a quiet chuckle a while back when someone ordered a Jumper because it looked like a Futaba set, only to be quite shocked when it arrived and was physically about half size!!

Frankly, from a customer standpoint, I want a dealer to be an expert in and fully support a make. I don't see that with multi make sellers.

I see your point. Unfortunately the last model shop I went in was about 30 years ago. They were very knowledgeable but didn't have the stuff I wanted. So I bought a magazine on model boats and mail ordered stuff. Then the internet came :)
While I agree a decent model shop that you can actually walk in and get advice would be great the vast majority of us have to use the internet and great forums like this for info.

I was just surprised that a company that relied on Open Source software to make it's product so good would actively attack the competition and accuse them of copying their product. I thought the x9d was a copy of a Futaba radio anyway  :D

The Jumper T12 and T8 are very small radios like the FlySky i6. I would have loved to see the look on the guys face when he unwrapped the Jumper thinking it was full size  :D .

It's always good to get advice from experienced people.

Oh I like it, a Chinese company that copied and cloned to make it's money, whinging and whining about the competition.   The Jumpers don't even look like a clone.

Aren't they just doing what TBS did a while back :hmm:

Dear all,

One must know that, afaik, the T16 runs under a forked version of OpenTx named JumperTx.
OpenTx evolutions could not be available to Jumper buyer in the future.
That's a point to consider before a buy.

Have nice flights !

Very true, JumperTX is a fork and may not be updated which could become an issue with FRSky Access protocol. It appears that OpenTX do not want to work with either Jumper or Nivarna but that is their prerogative and to a point the reason forking is available. It's probably due to the fact that one of the devs is now an employee of FRSky, well according to JB.

Supported software is always valuable and as we know things in the quad world move fast.. :-)

If Jumper have any sense they will keep the fork up to date with OpenTX, so any future development will be available. Even if they don't I'm pretty sure that someone else would.

This is the real reason FrSky are bullying in my opinion. If sales are low of the Jumper radios, development of the fork will fade away and complete dominance by FrSky is not a good thing. Look at their development record to date, their most popular radio design to date is the one they didn't design, the x9d+.
