Married Male seeks motors for fun times

I've been hearing some slightly odd noises on my quad of late, and it was very noticeable when hoofing it up Mt Snowdon at the weekend.
What I thought was maybe a little tree sap or mud from back in the summer looks like burnt enamel on the windings on two of the motors. So, yeah potential shorts there giving uneven fields, and this is just gonna deteriorate and get worse 'till - boom!

ATM, I'm running ZMX Fusion x25: 2205 2522kv motors and these suit me just fine.

I doubt that my senses are refined enough to tell the difference between similar specs of motor and super high quality ones would be wasted on me at the moment. I know it's a very personal choice balanced between flying style, kit, motors, tune etc.

The choices of motors these days is pretty daunting; everyone and their dog has done a review of their favourite motors, then there's  the celebrity hyped models, whic I'm a little wary of.

Does anyone then have any good recommendations on similar motors based on your own experience?

These will adorn my Armattan SCX200 with 25a escs, 4s/75c-100c packs, and I'm currently hanging HQ 5x4.5s off of it.
Flying style: "slightly clumsy, swoopy freestyle with ambitions, but still some basics to master".

Given that I have mouths to feed and 'nads to protect from my better half, I'm trying to find something no more expensive than low £20's least my plums be torn from me and burned.

Would be good to see if I can pick up a black Friday deal, but don't want to rush out and get something I'll regret.

Here's what I found so far:

https://www.hobbyrc.co.uk/t-motor-f60-pro-ii-2500kv-motor-grey
£21.95

https://hobbyking.com/en_us/multistar-viking-brushless-outrunner-drone-racing-motor-2205-2600kv-ccw.html
£9.16 (was £15.26)

https://airjacker.com/collections/motors/products/lumenier-rx2205-12-2400kv-motor
£14.99 was £21.99

https://www.quadcopters.co.uk/racing-drone-motors/tbs-masterpilot-pro-2400kv
£15.90

Then you have the super budget ones on discount…

£8.63 (was £16.60) Kinda seems okay on paper… but?

I HAVE given thought to re-winding the old motors for $h17s and giggles. It ought to be an interesting experience, but not until I've got some new motors running - I don't want to be grounded for too long.

.... dammit, I've rambled again.  :wack0

Do you like Tippex?  ;) ;) ;)

Not bad motors, not managed to burn mine out.

The Viking ones are also good despite being Hking. I run a couple of them on wings  and so far take all the abuse i have thrown at them.

F60 pro ii without a doubt.  Buy good, buy once and enjoy.  Stick some motor protectors on and they'll take the inevitable hits instead of the motors.  That was they'll last really well.

Cheredanine

T motor are unquestionably good, but if you want smooth, brother r5, ask Chris or JJ about my proton, just creamy

Lamaule

I think the r4s are still available too - they're still a workhorse motor for me too and a bargain too!

set on one of 5hise squads mate, if you or JJ cannibalise no issue, but r5 better imho

Elmattbo

As ever, my recommendations are only for what I fly. They’re probably no better than any others, but you won’t go wrong... at the moment I’m flying the returner r6 (almost the same as the r5 but with a different bearing and some fancy paintwork) and the tmotor f40 v3.

Not the f40 pro, the f40 v3! They’re rated as 2600kv but actually come out around 2450 and are really efficient with torque, which is exactly what I bought them for. They’re also pretty robust. I actually really rate these but they’re not the screaming all out madness of their ‘pro’ sibling, so go for the pro if that’s what you’re after.

The R6 are similar really although I find them a little less smooth running. I’ve had issues with frame resonance on my rooster and I can’t tell if it’s the frame or the motor.

Lastly, I used to run brotherhobby tornado t2. They’re pretty cheap now and although not fashionable anymore, they served me well and have plenty of punch. They just savage your hands when changing props!

Finally, I tend to stay below 2500kv. I’m not a massive fan of amp hungry set ups and I generally find once you go above 2500kv the efficiency drops.

All dependent on your own style I guess so take my recommendations with a pinch of salt! They work for me, but maybe not for you!

Some sound advice as always guys.
When I've finished rendering an alternate version of one of the Wales videos*, I'll take a look at these and see.
I reckon that if I go for reconditioning my current motors, and it works then I can justify something a little fancy motor-wise for Christmas  ~~

Oh, and motor protectors all the way! Shattered one when I broke that arm in the slate mine and the motor is utterly unscathed. I'd always used them and so glad I did.

Okay, I think it's gonna be the R5s.

A: 'Cos Cheredanine said "smooth"
B: ElecricWingman have them at MAD prices and discount if you buy 4!! (£68!!)

Quick check on the 22xx / 23xx sizes. Any significant difference? The 2307 has great reviews. Presumably the mounting holes are going to be compatible with my SCX200 on which I have 2206 motors? Just the bell, a little larger?

Still gonna rewire my current motors 'cos Pinky's gonna HIDE these when they arrive.

Yeah they’ll fit fine.

Motor protectors. Bizarre. If motors need motor protectors, why did they ever do away with the bottom bit?!
