Refining my switch setup

Loving air mode, but hating the freak-out bounce on land or disarming before on the ground.
So, time to tweak the switch settings on my QX7.

I think it may just come down to changing my arm switch and putting air mode on the arm.

Currently, I have:

right-shoulder momentary sw: pre-arm.
left-shoulder 2way: arm
left 3-way: mode - air|horizon|stab (I think - but the 0 setting is air so that the switch warning reminds me to set to air mode).

And another for beeper.

I have the arm switches on opposite ends of the radio because (not a common problem) the dog ONCE flipped the arm switch with his tail when the radio was on the bench while I was setting down my quad - fingers saved by the pre-arm!!!

I like the pre-arm on the momentary switch, so it kind of feels logical to put my disarm|arm|arm+air on the right short 3-way so that I can arm and pull it all the way to fly in air mode. Arm switches all on one side, but I'll deal with the dog-arming.

...then, carefully flip the switch to the middle to turn off air-mode to come in to land, and all the way off to disarm.

A little worried about accidentally disarming coming in to land though.

Anyone got a better setup than that?

I don't have an instant answer, but fully concur with the landing issues of Air Mode. Good to know I'm not alone!

If it isn't bad enough having a view of sky from the camera when trying to land with little or no ground reference, the last thing you need is the quad "bouncing" furiously at the lightest touch!

Something I have been meaning to try to address for some time now.

Just disarm before you land. [emoji41]

Yeah, "land" is such a loose term...  ::)

I have seen your landing at deserted mate, you don’t need airmode on a switch, you need a bucket, broom and shovel

I've not noticed any "bouncing" around when i land with airmode on or off
i hover over my landing spot and slowing drop the throttle til it touches down and disarm
sometimes i'll disarm when the quads half a foot away from the ground and let it drop on the grass

could just be my motors are weak and i use low pitch props so no where near as much trust as you guys

I don’t use Pre arm as I’ve always done 2 switch arming through the Taranis and I use the momentary switch for a voltage call out if I haven’t time to check the osd. My main arm switch is the big 3 way above the right stick which is only active when the 2 way shoulder switch is on. That switch works for me with air mode because I can easily get to it from the right stick and still have throttle control to the ground. Then as soon as I contact the ground I immediately disarm.

I can also turn airmode off using that 3 way in the bottom position, but I’ve set a beeper on the Taranis and turn off the osd with that same switch position to remind me airmode is off. I’ve forgotten that I’ve turned it off before and it didn’t end well!

I used to find airmode landings bouncy, but I guess practice just removed the bouncyness.  I don't even notice it any more - it's just a case of cut throttle and disarm quickly when near the ground.

Practice, Practice, Practice.....

Yes, good argument for me to move my arm to the RIGHT side. It takes me a moment to move my thumb from throttle to switch in which time we're getting a bounce.
Arm on right, as you say lets you retain throttle control to the very end.  ~~

It occurs to me that I'm noticing the bounce more now because I recently swapped from mode 3 to 2, so my throttle was on the RIGHT and arm on the LEFT.  :hmm:
