Contact explosive, like nitrogen tri-iodide on the tyres, you need to get inventive mate :)

I wasted half an hour on the BBC news channel waiting for the most recent drone story, only to find it was a re-hash of old legislative possibilities mixed with the standard dollop of public focused fear mongering.

For anyone who hasn't had their time wasted recently too, the story was mostly about the much discussed potential registration scheme, a version of which balpa and the civil aviation authority are hopeful will be passed through parliament.  But it was also about the new powers that the Police will likely be given to counter illegal drone use.  Consumers were interviewed and all agreed that drone safety was of paramount importance stating, "we don't want planes crashing or whatever".  Too right.  Those camera-shy plastic bag shaped drones are an absolute menace and have clearly proven a huge danger and disruption to the network of air traffic at airports world wide!

I'm pretty fed up of it all.  Every time a drone story is reported its a twisted affair thats edited to be full of bias and controversy.  I've got no issues with giving the Po Po powers to confiscate drones that are flown over or near to controlled airspaces such as airports, prisons, sports stadiums and military grounds.  They'll be pretty lucky to be able to actually capture a drone or arrest the pilot, but its a small deterrent that'll stop a few people from flying really irresponsibly.  But, unless the news reporting media better explain the dangers the police and CAA actually recognise when it comes to drone usage, over time, enthusiasts and hobbyists are going to end up a target for verbal and physical abuse by a huge percentage of the misinformed public.

Not good.

Good idea but you can't get the crystals these days, thought about using nitro flake pushing a 762 hollow point but the matter resolved itself later he blew up himself and his house,  unfortunately the neighbours got a bit mashed as well.

So, Would this mean a 10kg camera hex would be fine if it only went at walking pace?  :whistling:
I need a pay rise........ Though I'd settle for a reduction in the amount of hours I need to work to get the same money.

eu this, eu that, eu making this rule, eu making that rule!

tbf it doesnt mean a sh1t what rules the EU come up with.......

where leaving........... who's to say we'll even bother keeping their over bureaucratic near impossible to enforce rules?.

you can pretty much guarantee that most of these daft idea's are gonna be chucked out straight away as pointless wastes of money as soon as were loose, whichever government is in when it happens will be making cash cuts all over the shop to try and bolster the economy so little daft picky rules are the first to get shot.

Im more interested in when the german eu ministers are finally gonna stop pretending and just declare the eu to be the fourth Reich..... afterall, theyve managed to gain control of all the countries they tried to grab 60 years back, this time they didnt use tanks but politics and once again though were the only ones not willing to join in the goose stepping parades

As always, the action of a few idiots affects the decent responsible people!

70 near misses out of 1000s is a tiny percentage and I would guess anyone registered on this site would not be in that category, it is more likely to be younger people showing off to their piers.

Drug smuggling won't change no matter what they change.

In a way it makes me laugh that they are going to impose tough rules/restrictions
Take the mobility scooter brigade, there are more mob scoots on the roads, err pavements than HGV vehicles on British roads last year there was something like 30 injury's some very serious yet no rules or licence needed.
I still  feel the police will not be able to enforce and real presence on new drone laws as they are stretched like a rubber band as it is, also they want to be very careful about the wording of new laws as this could create a huge loop hole, if the law is passed worded as "Drone"..........well we dont fly drones as a drone is something the military use to target enemy
Volantex Ranger 1600/2000, Ranger 1200 G2, Phoenix S 1600 AR900 Miniskyhunter, ZOHD Dart 635 and a few 680 batwings plus old faithful C1 chaser and a lot of eagletree guardians

I'm wondering if the heli  brigade will have the same restrictions, same capabilities  just 2 props short of a quad.
It might be why the B.M.F.A.  have kept their heads below the parapet ;).

According to "Dictionary.com".....

"Drone"

noun
1. The male of the honeybee and other bees, stingless and making no honey.

2. (A) An unmanned aircraft or ship that can navigate autonomously, without human control or beyond line of sight:
the GPS of a U.S. spy drone.

(B) (loosely) Any unmanned aircraft or ship that is guided remotely:
a radio-controlled drone.

3. A person who lives on the labor of others; parasitic loafer.

OK. They seem to be using 2B as their definition, But doesn't that read that 2A is the MORE correct usage? We're not allowed beyond LOS, And even with GPS fitted to allow loitering modes, most multirotors don't do anything without a direct input from the pilot, So they're (predominantly) not "Drones"......... I wonder if that argument would hold up in court?

Making the rules about kinetic energy rather than weight could be a huge loophole for some larger and slower camera craft though. But it also leads to the question of what kinetic energy is being discussed? Having a 130mm racer hit you at 80mph is going to do a lot more damage than having a 1000mm octocopter tap you with a skid at walking pace, But if they're thinking about the energy at the blade tips, even when traveling at 3mph, you get hit by a 15" carbon blade and (If you're lucky) you're going to have a very bad week. The blades of a 3" probabbly also zip around fast enough to tip the scales if they have enough momentum.

I'm wondering if DJI's range will be able to comply? It seems they back every ill thought out lump of legislation that gets spewed out by this government (As long as it either gives them an edge in the market, Or screws over the competition more than it does them).

(Also, Doesn't definition 3 means MP's shouldn't be allowed in an aircraft? "No drones flying in controlled airspace" and all that ! :) )
I need a pay rise........ Though I'd settle for a reduction in the amount of hours I need to work to get the same money.

Nice rant.

1) It is likely that the UK will remain a member of EASA. Article on Sky on the subject.

2) Commercial drones are seen as being a plus for the economy. Integrating commercial drone activity into UK airspace is the primary driver behind the coming changes.

Can't imagine a registration system will net the government much, if any, money. If it's, say, a fiver a quad the cost to run and maintain the database will eat into any 'profits'. It could even be free in the UK.

Its got a lot more to do with being seen to be caring and reliable. No local or national leadership wants to be accused or found guilty of ignoring public safety, even if the reality is the public aren't really in much danger. If the media and a countrywide spread of local ignorant do-gooders spread fear and anger amongst the general population about the use of drones then leaders feel the need to act. Couple that with the genuine concerns that security and air traffic operators have and it's understandable that a registration system suggestion has been put forward as more people take to the skies with uav's.

At the end of the day if commercial drone usage really takes off it'd be almost impossible not to regulate the use of multi-rotors sharing the skies over the UK, and that applies to business and personal uav's.

Btw, I don't think many Tories drive lambo's. Jeeves is more likely to chauffeur them about in their jags.  ;)
