I went on a Steam hauled trip to Lincoln from Kings Cross, London, yesterday.

Standing off the Fayre (so NOT over people) was a large four arm camera multi, pretty obviously there because of the Fayre.  It just sat there in the hover. While up on the Castle walls, I saw it land an take off again, presumably changing cell packs, but was unable the see the ground operation running it.  It was still there more than four hours later, now in complete darkness, visible by red and green arm lighting.

SOMEONE (presumably the Police?) has a VERY good stash of cell packs!!!

For anyone interested, it was 46100 7P 4-6-0 "Royal Scot" deputising for failed 8P  4-6-2 "Duchess of Sutherland".   "46100" carries the Royal Scot name and number from 1933 when it travelled across the Atlantic, but is actually originally 6152 from 1930, rather than 6100 from 1927.  The train operating company didn't exactly LIE in their description, just being a trifle economical with the truth, though why bother, its a great piece of history either way!

Wife is the camera person, I just use eyeballs these days!  This is 46100 at Peterborough on the way up.

She says there were a load of free loading trainspotters on the platform bitching like crazy that "they shouldn't be allowed off the train, they are spoiling our pictures!"

There truly are some idiots in the railway interest world, as if it wasn't for those PAYING passengers, the loco would not even BE there.........................

Note: We saw one camera quad filming a pass across fields along the railway, stood off a decent distance, no people, no animals, etc, so nothing to moan about and I hope the pilot got the footage desired.

Two-Six

Steam Trains are amazing.  We get a few running through town every week (Paddington to Penzance line GWR), I really must get it organised to go and watch one pass-by sometime.  I have never seen one, I just hear them whistling.
