Hello all, greetings from Argentina.
I am about to start a S550 build, and I';m planning to use a Naza-M Lite to control the hexacopter (upgraded to V2). I read somewhere that this combination of frame-controller is not the best, or at least a few years ago some people had stability issues, and now I';m wondering if I';m going the right way with this build. It is my first build from scratch, and I know a hexacopter is not the easiest to start, but I need this copter for aerial photography and well, I enjoy the challenge of building it.
Thank you all for reading, and have a great evening!

Hi and welcome to the forum, you will enjoy building from scratch and will learn a lot from doing so, enjoy your self.

Hi pisol and welcome to the forum the dji hex is quite an old design now but still good, I still have one fitted with a naza v2 they are a bit on the heavy side but fly fine  ~~

Hello m8 the frame will be fine.  With the Naza - take time to properly calibrate the compass (do the Naza dance) and set the fail safe! Switch activated failsafe and also radio off failsafe.   Hover 3 or 4 lipos out close proximity / bimble around low level before going on any hi flying missions, this way you can get your confidence up and if needed set the thing into failsafe if anything untoward should happen - i.e. fly back to china lol.  Should be fine and good luck.

Thank you very much guys!! I will take my time for this build, as I said I';m new to building multicopters so there';s a lot to learn, but I';m sure it';s going to be a great experience. It is great to know that my frame-FC combo is alright.
Of course my first flights will be extremely low, once I make sure everything is correct and the thing is reliable I';ll slowly start going higher.
I';ll be around the forum from now on, so I hope we';ll be in touch!

Hi Pisol. How are you getting on with the build?

You might enjoy the thread I started with apollo7, as we both built similar 550s some time ago:

http://www.multi-rotor.co.uk/index.php?topic=19030.0

I decided to go with the Tarot ZYX-M flight controller. It works great, but lacks any decent Ground Station functionality and only works on Windows (despite Tarot claiming that there will be an Apple and iOS feature added).

The 550 was my first build and I learnt loads from it. I've built a few more quads since, but am looking at a 960 now for professional AP usage.

Good luck with the build  ~~
