Naza M lite

The reason for my asking was once i have updated to v2 using windows 7 (4.04 firmware) then using my mac (Mac OSx) for all my other functions. As i enter into NAzaM assistant it keeps telling me to update to the latest firm 4,06 or something once i don';t accept that it keeps popping everytime i connect to the Assistant, also the error 29 is repetitive and even once corrected it comes back, my reason for connecting constantly to the assistant is that i am trying to set the gains as best as poss to have a smooth flight (which is so far eluding me).
Any suggestions, does that constant need to re update from 4.04 to 4.06 happen to others?
Once i tried to update to 4.06 on nazam assistant, the naza basically deletes the firmware and needs to be connected back to Naza m lite assistant and one needs to reinstall the V1 and redo the whole hacking to v2.
Is there a work around for this, or to stop the pop up sign to update further on nazam or even to stop the error 29 from recurring.

ched

Must admit only use Win7 (desktop + 8" tablet). When I start the assistant I don';t get a popup just a box saying update and a link to skip. I just click skip and carry on.
The error 29 is one I have had a couple of times. I had a gimbal in my tx failing that caused it. But saying that I have had it when tx was fine. What I did was unplug quad battery, set throttle on tx to 50% with tx on, then power on the quad. Wait till no red flashes and you get green or yellow (depending on which mode you are in. Then enjoy flying.

As for setting gains I took the easy route. I bought a 8" Chewi dual boot (Win7/Android) Tablet for £72 and took that to the flying site. 1 battery later gains were set. I just took off moved sticks a bit, landed and upped the gains a bit, took off and saw if better or worse. Then repeat until it felt like it responded to the sticks when I wanted it to if you get the idea.
I try :-)

Finally received the s500 spare frame, back on the s500, its so much better then the hopeless f450 (mine was a terrible and unstable frame right from the box). now recalibrate the MC on the assistant and have been trying to get the basic gains working, have them now at a quiet manageable sate.

Any suggestions what RX and Tx to update to in the future. the FLYSKY is ok to start with but its to limited, i guess.

ched

Good to hear you got it flying well.
To be honest I fly my F450 with 3 axis gimbal (2 axis controlled from pots on tx) and a 2 way video switcher (switch between Gimbal cam and FPV cam), on my i6 with 10ch FW and find it great. I still have 2 switches spare. I also have the flight battery telemetry addon (about £3) connected so my tx knows flight battery voltage and has 2 alarm levels I can set to warn when to come home.

I would guess standard upgrade would be the Taranis Q X7. It has smaller rx, does much more telemetry, has better gimbals and more switches to name but a few upgrades.
I try :-)

what Rx are you using with you i6? is it a 6 channel rx or 10 channel? model please.

also is it possible to post your Tx settings (preferable pictures, i know that would be a lot of pic) if you are able to find fleshy decent, then i have to check what i am doing wrong.

thanks ched999uk

Dippi

Another think could you please send me details of the whole set up of parts on your drone. that would be a great help.

I am using 10ch rx (FS-IA10B).
TX setup:
System
PPM off
failsafe all off apart from ch3 =-98%
sensors 1= IntV 1, 2=ExtV2
Functions
Reverse: ch5 (flight modes) reversed
End point: all 100% except ch5 74% 67% so 3 way switch does gps, atti, rth modes.
Aux ch ch5 =swc
Subtrim all centre except ch5 to make flight mode work.
dual rates trim all standard
throttle curve standard
Every thing else standard.

Might be worth you just using a new model and setting up as default then tweek SWC for 3 way flight modes.

I do have the rotary controls set for the gimbal but thats probably not relevant. Plus I have 1ch assigned to switch my video switcher.
I am using PWM and seperate cables from rx to FC.
I try :-)

DJI F450 frame
naza lite (cant remember model but V2 FW + M8 GPS on high post)
DJI 2212 920KV Brushless Motor x4
DJI E300 15A opto esc that have been updated to BLHeli
GemFan 1045 props
3S 3300mAh 20C batteries
FS-IA10B rx
vtx TS351 + rh polarized antenna
N1 OSD ( I think its N1 could be FFOSD?)
3 way video switch (generic one)
Big heavy Crab landing gear with gimbal mount and rear battery mount to balance.
3 Axis Storm32 Gimbal with SJ4000 (with 5v bec to charge batt)
4 different coloured strips of LED (5050) 1 round each side to help orientation.
Dont know weight but if I remember it was about 1200gms + batt. I think.
Think that';s it.
I try :-)

Dippi

you seem to have an excellent setup Ched999uk (since i don';t know what to call you , please forgive me).

1. If i am not mistaken osd is for telemetry, right? I was not sure if telemetry worked with Naza lite.
2. What i am confused about, is how are you able to use 15a esc, i have been mistaken and was under the impression that with this kind of set up one had to use a 30a esc, care to elaborate here.
3. About the osd, i would like more info in the near future once i have my drone under control.

Issues with my drone, once i have configured the drone and find it stable and programmed the gains, its time to recharge the battery 3s- 4200. After i have again recharged and want to fly, the drone behaves again unstable, i don';t understand that as once the setting are stable they should remain the same, shouldn';t they?

Is that normal?

Another thing, ..... when the rate / exp channel 1, 2 and 4 are at 100 % the drone is very reactive, so at some point i kept the rate at 100% and the exp to 60 % on channel 1 and 2, the drone seemed to behave a bit more stable. Can you explain me some thing on this as you seem to use default values.

Finally before my crash while using the s500 frame i had a very stable drone and now when i tried to use the same settings the drone was not responding the same way, do you know why it could be acting like that.
Regards Dilip.

The OSD (On Screen Display) is a FFOSD N1. It goes between a FPV (First Person View) camera and a video transmitter. It adds things like battery voltage, gps co ordinates, compass direction, speed, height, distance to take off point and direction back etc.... This info can be viewed via a video receiver (vrx) and then connected to screen of goggles.

As for the esc. Well I bought the F450 from Jay (GdLookinMingeR) on the forum. It was built with motors, esc, osd, naza and gps. I believe the motors/esc were a DJI setup called E300 propulsion. I have added bigger landing gear, rx, gimbal, video switcher, leds etc.

How are you setting the gains when in the field? As I have a bit of a drive to fly (too close to airport at home) I bought a Chuwi Hi8  8" tablet that is dual boot between Win10 and Android. It just fits in my back pocket.
The way I adjusted gains was take off flick sticks about and see if it reacted quickly enough or if it was wobbly. Then landed plugged in tablet and adjusted gains accordingly.

Expo is short for exponential. Basically it makes the centre of stick movements less sensitive. On the tx when you set it you can see the graph and that is a representation of stick movement vs position that is sent to the rx. If that makes sense?

Yes things are getting more clear now.
Sadly I have apple set up, that has progressed over the years.
I am tuning the machine at home and using my Mac. After getting solid advice from Jay, apollo and you Ched, am getting a good grip.
For someone, who a few weeks back ...had no idea about soldering ......... to come all this way is a big step.
At some point during the process, almost had lost all hope..., if it would not have been for all the help on this forum. When one is new to this hobby, one cannot distinguish between correct or somewhat correct YouTube explanations, due to which One ends up doing everything opposite.

I was greatly surprised when I read you have an excellent setup using 15a esc and all the videos showed and recommended  30a esc on YouTube. Anyway I had a lot of failures and ended up with extra parts which I now will have to get rid of. But 1 found out that the s500 frame is a bit more sleek and stronger compared to f450. But again I had ordered most of my parts from aliexpress china and some of the sellers are not very straightforward and quality is not well controlled before shipping. But then Jay adviced to shop at Hobbyking and it';s a good online store, Which I will do henceforth.
I had actually purchased minim osd, respective Transmitter and receiver and a FPV cam but I guess they will not work with Naza.

ched

Basically you get a FPV cam - ccd cam is best (lens 2.1mm = wide view, 2.5 GoPro width view, 2.8mm narrow) put that on front of quad. Lots of people use HS1177 cam.
A video transmitter (vtx) 5.8Hhz then transmits the FPV cam to a video receiver on the ground (need to check receiver is compatible with vtx channels).
The above all needs to be powered by the quad flight battery. So you need to either buy a voltage converter or get cam and vtx that is compatible with flight battery voltage.
Either Goggles or a monitor is connected to the vrx and bingo you can see out of the quad as it flies  ::)
I try :-)

Dippi

Ched is it possible to send in some pictures of your drone? and a movie. Thanks.

I will add some pictures of the Fpv kit i have, as per your specifications i might need a new OSD. but the rest should fit in.

ched

VTX, VRX, cam and bec (Battery Eliminator Circuit) look OK.
The mini OSD, was it listed as being compatible with Naza? If it was you might be in luck.
I assume you are intending to raise the gps on a pole mount? It';s best to get the gps puck as far from power electronics (motors, esc, pdb) as possible.

I don';t think I have any photos of my F450. I will have a look and see what I can find. I do have video from the hd cam on the gimbal. I will try and dig some out but it';s packed away as I can';t go flying for next couple of months as too busy working.
I try :-)

Dippi

Ched, I have to check the OSD if its compatible. Maybe next week now getting ready for a road trip.
The drone flies very very smooth, using Naza v1 assistant.
Checked Failsafe and IOC home lock, all good.
Now need to go to the next level.
RGDS.
Dilip.

Maybe a gamble and camera and maybe a new <osd.
Any suggestions.

Carbon Tricopter with KK2 mini because you have to own a Tri and Falcon Evo FPV (rebuild again) with fatshark 600mw vtx & pz2040 cam. New addition (hidden from the missus!) 250 quad.

Dippi

Jay any advice on a good decent gimbal and a camera?
Thanks.

ched

I bought this https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Sivler-RTF-3-Axis-Brushless-Gimbal-Camera-Mount-w-black-2204-260kv-2805-140kv-Motor-Storm32/32766257903.html?spm=2114.13010608.0.0.RVe4af 3 axis gimbal (RTF) as it has the Storm32 control board which has a fairly good following and reviews. I also added the Bluetooth module so I can tweek it via my tablet (win10). I have not adjusted any of the PID settings just left them as default and it is fairly good, not perfect but I will tweek it soon  ::)

I use a SJ4000 cam as it was cheap and reasonable quality.
The cam is getting on for 3 years old I think so a bit old hat. It only does 1080 but I am quite happy with it.

I read your post re lipo and 30min flight! Not easy at all. I would say you may be able to get 15min but bigger battery = heavier = uses more power to fly. So it';s a balance between flight time and weight.
Mine at about 1.2kg + batt (3S 3300Mah) gives about 7min. If I ordered again I would probably go 4000mah or 4500mAh. I keep meaning to try the 2 x 3300mah batts in parallel (6600mAh 3S) and see how it handles and how long it flies!
I try :-)

Dippi

Thanks Ched, this is very helpful. Am on a road trip sightseeing through East and later middle Finland should be home next week and check out things then and will keep you informed.

Dippi

Still travelling, wish i had the drone ready with the camera, could have take great pictures during the trip.

Ched i like the gimbal you recommended, would you be kind enough to recommend the camera and the bluetooth TX and Rx to go with the gimbal, will have to figure out if they will play good with a iPad or iPhone.

(i do have a set of rx and tx from boshcom or something similar packed and waiting but they are not bluetooth, seems like bluetooth will be a better option?),
Thanks.

ched

Sorry I may have confused you. The bluetooth is a HC-06 module that you can solder onto the Storm32 gimbal control board. All it does is allow you to wireless connect to the gimbal just to change settings. I use a Win10 tablet. I have no idea if there is a iphone/ipad app that can configure the gimbal.
The bluetooth does not enable you to view images from the camera. I believe Bluetooth will realistically give about 10m range!

My SJ4000 cam is about 2-3 years old and only 1080 so there will be better cams out there. The size of mine is similar to the oblong gopros not the latest cube ones. The cube ones or their clones (Runcam 3) might not fit my gimbal as they are deeper and would probably not swing forward enough without hitting the gimbal frame.

Hopefully someone will suggest a gopro size cam that is more modern than mine.
I try :-)
