DroneToTheBone

Hi all, new to the group. I am buying a JD 509 from a friend of mine. Is there anything I should be wary of ? are there any hints or tips ?

This is my first drone.

Hi DTTB,

The 509 is found in various brands. I have the Pioneer branded version. I have to say it is the easiest multirotor I have ever flown and gives a remarkably good video image as well. You will probably want to get some extra batteries for it if you get hooked on it. Something like these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Toys-Games/HB-HOMEBOAT-600MAH-Upgrade-Battery/B00PQDPFAG/ref=pd_vtph_107_bs_lp_tr_t_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=KW8GKNBQ852DR88BTAVP

or maybe these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/YouCute-batteries-JXD-Quadcopter-accessories/dp/B01N6LUJIG/ref=pd_sbs_107_8?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=KW8GKNBQ852DR88BTAVP

Good luck

Hi and thank you for taking time to reply to me. The model I have is the Pioneer model also. I have been playing with it for a day or so now and its great. The battery is a 650 mha I believe or maybe a 600. The flying time is poor. If I get a stronger battery how much longer will it fly ?

As I have said I got it from a friend who has told me that the screen that comes with the drone does not hold its charge. Is it possible to change the battery in the 5 inch display screen ? In fact is it easy ? or can I get a replacement screen and would it be expensive ? I just what to see what I am photographing. So many questions from someone who has just taken the hobby up.

Regards in advance

While you can buy ';stronger'; (more mAh, same voltage) batteries they will be heavier and the JD509 might not be able to carry them. Also the more weight you carry the shorter the flight time. Easiest thing might be t just buy a couple of batteries. They you can just land and change to a charged battery. Seems like you can get spare batteries on ebay that are 3.7v (single cell) and 650mAh. I have also seen 800mAh versions which might give you a slightly longer flight time.

As for the battery in the monitor, replacing it depends on your skill level and how it';s put together. Can you solder?

ADDED: Looks like the monitor can be opened up at rear but no idea what type of battery is required.
Yoou can get replacement monitors from China but they might take a month to arrive: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Top-Sale-JXD-Extra-5-8G-4-Inch-FPV-Monitor-Screen-RC-Drone-Spare-Part-Dron/32693232638.html?spm=2114.01010208.3.54.mcxDuV&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_2_10152_5010012_10065_10151_10130_10068_10136_10157_10137_10060_10138_10155_10062_10156_437_10154_10056_10055_10054_10059_303_100031_10099_10103_10102_10096_10147_10052_10053_10107_10050_10142_10051_5020012_10084_10083_10119_10080_10082_10081_10110_519_10111_10112_10113_10114_10179_10037_10182_10185_10033_10184_10032_10078_10079_10077_10073_10123_10120_142,searchweb201603_13,ppcSwitch_5&btsid=afda1a1a-8da5-4a99-911d-03d625a46ff2&algo_expid=a2d81f17-b01a-4c30-acfe-a6796af2d6c6-7&algo_pvid=a2d81f17-b01a-4c30-acfe-a6796af2d6c6
