Hi, just registered so hello and I hope you are a friendly lot!
I have just bought a Yuneec Typhoon and as I have never flown a drone of any sort before I thought I would ask advice on the best way to learn to fly - follow the operating manual and self teach, join a local club, take one of the expensive courses that seem to be available online or buddy up with someone who is experienced.
I am based in South Gloucestershire but can';t find any local clubs

Thanks in advance

ThomRC

Welcome mate!

As I said in chat, hopefully there';s someone close by that can offer help with where to fly and how to get started. Just take it easy though, don';t get too scared about breaking anything, just start slow.

My advice would be to get an indoor little quad like an Eachines E010 for about £10 or £15 on ebay. Learn to fly that round indoors so you can get used to stick control and orientation i.e. when the aircraft faces you the controls are effectively reversed.
As you say make sure you read your manual and understand it. Youtube might be of help there.
As far as I know most of the ';expensive courses'; are to enable people to fly professionally. i.e. you must have passed the tests to be paid to fly!!!
If you can find a local club that does multi rotors that might be a great help.

Remember take it slowly, safely and legally!

I am assuming you dont have any flying or RC experience. If you know what you are doing sorry :)

Anyway everyone friendly on here and lots of experienced people to help.

The only stupid question is the one you don';t ask :)
I try :-)

Friskle

Which Typhoon ? The Q500 or the  H ?

first off, DO NOT start off using Smart Mode, it gets more people in trouble than anything else.

Both models fly extremely well, i have both, and both are very stable indeed, the Q500 is more casual than the H.

visit here https://www.facebook.com/groups/YuneecQ500owners/

if you do facebook, plenty of help for solely Yuneec on there, post which model of Typhoon you have.

if your the calm patient type, you can learn easily enough on either of them, but as Ched states, a small quad is great to learn the basics first, it beats smashing the pride and joy up.
lots of videos on Youtube regarding either the Q500 or Tyhoon H, but visit that facebook page and join it,quite a number of great people on there :)

totally agree with friskle about safe mode I used it on my blade 350 when I started wish I wouldn';t of now, better off learning proper orientation first.
