FPV on a budget..... 130mm?

I really want to get a taste of FPV but I';m on a fairly limited budget.

I';ve seen Tiny Whoops they are pretty cheap (with goggles etc) but I';m wondering if something slightly bigger might prove to be more versatile, so I was thing that maybe a 130mm might be a better idea.

I want to build rather than buy, but I';ve never even soldered before, so am I biting off more than I can chew?

Is this idea doable, and if so, can anyone hazard a guess at how much it would set me back (I need the heap - quad, TX, battery charger, goggles etc).

I';m fine with having basic equipment as long as it works, and I don';t mind ordering from HK etc.

So can anyone shed some light on this for me?

personaly i would buy all the gear from banggood if you can wait couple weeks.racestar motors 1407,130 frame, something long the lines of diatone lizard,pdb/fc all in 1,1/4 cmos 600tvl cam, vtx, flysky i6 but buy a different rx thats more slimmer, racestar 20a esc x4,eachine ev800.i fly pretty much the same bar i use tornado t1 1407,frikkin fast as hell on dinogy 800. 4s.

I suggest pdb/fc all in 1 as 150 downwards is extremely tight, this type of fc is better as theres no seperate pdb so no extra standoff height.

remember that most vtx use 7v min to power them so when you buy a fc/pdb all in 1 they usualy only have 5v bec so you will require a 5v vtx, theres a dys one,its 25/200 but on 200 setting it apparently gos well over 600mw but 25mw should be fine for park flyer.the flysky tx should have a 16a/b but i6a is pwm only which presents prob as its got loads of wires, you want a ppm rx and the i6b is ppm but its big and fat, theres another rx you can buy from flysky thats lovely and slim (just forgot which it is) i6x or 8 or something.

The quad aint exactly budget but a walkera rodeo is like £130 or something and you still need a tx but its not a diy and most likely for say £150 you can build a nice spec micro 130/150 that you built yourself.

I personaly love the 150 size,i got a diatone lizard and it has tornado 1407 and is built from pretty much the stuff i recommend although its git s furious fpv kombini fc and thats around £40 alone.

If you need links to all the stuff i would recommend let me know and i put a list but without all the science.

Currently i am putting another 150 together on racestar 1407 and just needs the fpv gear fitting,cam/vtx but test flown/hovered and its looking good but again, thats got a dtfc fc/pdb allinone and its £40 again.

Theres some £25-35 fc on banggod.
Racestar 1407 are what £25?
150 frame £10?
Racestar 20a esc £20?
Vtx £10.
1/4 cmos 600tvl £6.
Props few quid but it will only run 3030 size.so say £10 for 3030 tris and even the standard 2 blades till you find best props.

Antenna is like £6-£7 for 2 but i removed sma connectors on on the vtx and i git the thinner floppy cloverleaf as they are lighter and soldered the antenna to the vtx.

So what we talking here?

£100ish?add radio set and rx £50 and there it is for £150.

The diatone lizard dont seem to be on banggood,i fly a 150 of that frame and its good.the pics here are of the realacc y150 off banggood, thems the racestar 1407 and 20a esc, theres a flysky x6b ppm rx on the bottom under the fc,needs a vtx and camera,i have a camera but the prob with this frame is,getting a camera that can fit between the front frame standoffs, the cam i have fits alright but screws to hold it is different matter,i can lay a 58 type vtx on the top off the fc and still get the top of the frame on but the fc is all 5v becs so i cant run any vtx i have as they are all 7v+
So i ordered the dys 25/200 as thats 5v but aint recieved it yet.

But this is just example, you can shove an f3 fc/pdb in there from £25-35 off banggood, this one in the build is a dtfc.

Hi

Thanks for the help. Yeah links for the bits would be a real help, being honest most of what you';re saying is going over my head a little!

Cynabal

Check out the Tyrant 150 looks absolutely bomb proof, 4mm carbon frame! Ive been toying with the idea of a geprc130x frame or an air-assault frame something to bridge the gap between my tiny whoop and 280 quad.

Its not hard realy, for around £100 you can build a nice, fast 150 quad or whatever size you want but i would not suggest too small.

So you just go banggood and buy a nice frame worh good reviews that you like.so if its a 150 then the recommended size motors are around 1407,so buy the 1407 motors that you think will do the job, same fur the esc, sane for the fc/pdb but buy an all in 1 as the build is very tight.then you require the fov gear, the camera and vtx but if you just buy any vtx you will find most need 7v whereas the fc/pdb is only 5v so buy the right vtx that runs off the power supplied by the fc/pdb,then just buy the transmitter/rx of your choice.

Then you just need good but oretty basic soldering skills and confidence.

Then you should have the small quad you want to fly when you buy a battery.

Away from that there are ready made packages but think about whats in it,its price and will you crash it and have to repair it.its not easy for me on this phone to put links to frames and components.usualy people suggest but the builder usualy posts a list and then it gets scrutinised.

Shopping is half the fun.
