experimented with a very similar setup on a HKAlien  frame a while back.

Even using minimum CF for the gimbal to reduce weight the front motors were working so much more than the rears to compensate for the nose heavy weight, Even when I shifted the 4s 4000mah right to the rear of the frame to try and offset the messed up COG it was still marginally nose heavy and less than stella in the air.

I cant see that frame having the ability of shifting weight like I did so that wouldnt even be a option Im guessing.

granted it probably gives great wide stable shots but I definetly wouldnt want to have to pull any emergency stops when forward flying at any sort of pace :cry

I think this looks promising.  I hope it lives up to expectation as DJI need to be forced to re-evaluate their overly expensive pricing structure.  It';s bad enough that their drones are generally overpriced (I';m not biased in favour of dji - I own a P3 Advanced and think they';re too expensive) but the fact they then charge their customers a further £400-£500 for a hand held gimbal is insanely greedy.  If Go Pro';s Karma';s decent and the included hand held gimbal stick works well it will likely force DJI to re-design their product and pricing strategy.

Like SD, I';m not sure about a heavy gimbal sitting out front.  It must have some negative effects on the flight capabilities of the drone.  But, it';s truly amazing what Porsche have achieved using technology to outsmart physics in their rear engined 911, so hey, anything';s possible I suppose!

Sweet Pickle

I watched the live event and was struck by how little detail was released. There seemed to be more fcus on the removable gimbal to plonk on your mountain bike than details of the actual quad.
Launch is little over a month to go, on the basis of what came out to day it didn';t have me rushing to pre-order.
It does stack up well price wise when you consider it has a screen and a backpack, but that side it doesn';t seem to have the bells and whistles of a present generation Phantom (I don';t own one so not biased). Will be interested to see flight time, replacement battery costs, quality of down link etc.

LuMan

I really like the look of this. A compact solution that packs away to that level is good. I';m not sure that I would refer to it as the "end-to-end life solution," like they did in the film, though!

I also think that the move to making the controllers more like ground stations is good. The Yuneec ST16/24/etc.. controllers have a similar approach, and it seems less fiddly that linking a separate iPad/tablet to your controller.

However, as there is a built-in FPV monitor on the controller, doesn';t this make the device fall under the ruling that it is effectively an FPV craft and therefore cannot be operated without a LOS spotter?

WRT the weight of the camera gimble; looking at the film, it appears that the battery pack will go in the rear of the quad, and the crossing point of the motor diameters is very slightly forward, so I would expect the battery packs to offset the camera and gimble.

Of course, we';ll know more when someon posts an in-depth review and includes performance and flight-time stats  ;)

I think this looks pretty interesting. I have no doubt the camera quality will be excellent! It will now be interesting to see how the rest performs.

I love the option to just shift the gimbal around and the host of mounts available! DJI better have something very special planned with their next release!

Dude, please give a brother a warning. I absolutely detest that man. Nails on a chalk board. Fortunately the reactions are still quick and I managed to shut the tab sharpish.
I accidentally clicked on  one of his videos about a year ago and Youtube have been serving up his videos into my feed ever since.

Considering he has a wall of broken Phantoms, one if his videos had the phrase "oh this one hit a tree so I had to buy a new one"

Could probably have made 3 or 4 good ones out of the corpses

I suspect the 14,000 feet is for the self obsessed types who want photos of themselves falling over while up mountains
