With a fairly pre-defined layout, customisation on Flamewheel';s is often about the little things.
Let';s see some pics of everyone';s F550 builds to see how differently people have built them :)

DJI Inspire 2 X5s
DJI Mavic 2 Pro
GEPRC CineLog20
iFlight Nazgul 5 HD
iFlight Nazgul Evoque F6D V2
iFlight Chimera 7 HD

Mine started life as a basic f550 with dji white legs.
Then within a few weeks i changed to these landing legs

Added a few leds

Then changed to Aeroxcraft legs and gimbal

Now it looks like this

with Aeroxcraft aluminium arms, I bought the anti vibration mount for the legs too and looks like there are only 4 nuts and bolts that hold the lower legs/ gimbal on, so looks easy to remove when i don';t want it on there and zoom around without it on.

Nice! Sounds like we followed a pretty similar path. I started off with an F450, with the DJI white legs. Quickly replaced them for the same as you and added a Zenmuse.
At this point decided I wanted a little more oomph so upgraded it to an F550 and swapped the legs out for Aeroxcraft legs. Much better! :)

However, I';m very intrigued about what differences you found with the aluminium arms, and also if you have a link to the anti-vibration kit for the legs?

Probibably won';t be able to get out till the weekend to give it a go. I never had any vibrations with the plastic arms. So fingers crossed none with the new arms.

Thought id throw mine in also

Nice an neat wiring, those ESC wires need resoldering.  They look like the ground sleeve can touch the power pad.  That';s not something you want to happen.

And a terminal block?!   :blink

I';ll have a look at the ESC wires.
The terminal block was just for quick access to power at the front.

Hehe, fair enough.  I wouldn';t recommend using them on an airframe.  The vibrations can break the wires where they are screwed in the block.  This happens sooner with stranded wire than solid core based on my own observations.

If you want flexibility for plugging things in use one of the many RC connectors available.  Just my £0.02.

The build isn';t complete yet so I wanted to leave my options open and the terminal block lets me power more than one thing at a time.
I am always messing with the configuration to get a nice balance.
When I find it I will connect it all properly and cut off the fat.

This is a great thread!! My S550 frame arrived yesterday and I';ve been thinking about the best approach for my first hex build. These pics have really given me a great insight and a fair bit to think about.

Please feel free to keep posting pics

I';ll post mine as the build progresses.

How about we do a joint thread as we are both soon to build this hex
Volantex Ranger 1600/2000, Ranger 1200 G2, Phoenix S 1600 AR900 Miniskyhunter, ZOHD Dart 635 and a few 680 batwings plus old faithful C1 chaser and a lot of eagletree guardians

Good idea, apollo7. I';ll start one off and we can compare builds as we go along. It';ll be interesting to see where we differ and align on parts and spec and whathaveyou.  :beer2:
