throttle deadband

How can I lessen the dead point at the bottom of my throttle range?
I have
min throttle 1150
max throttle 1850
Min command 1000
min check 1100
Max check 1900
Feature  motor stop enabled
All my end points and sub trims are spot on
I';d like to have throttle almost right off the bottom of the stick whereas at the moment it';s almost at the first division marker on the tx before the motors spin up.

In cf configurator with props off and batter connected on the motor tab see what value your motors spin up at, (for my latest quad it was 1020) then set your min throttle to X+10 (so mine is set to 1030

Edit: to be a little clearer, the throttle dead band is the difference between what your FC registers on the throttle channel with the stick at the bottom and min check.

If you have motor stop enabled then the FC will send the min command value to the motors as long as the stick input is below min check.

Without motor stop enabled the FC will send min throttle to the motors

So for a new quad you need to :
Confirm what the FC reads on the throttle channel with the stick at its low point (ideally 1000)
Confirm where the motors all spin up (in my example, above 1020

Set min throttle to 10 points higher than the spin up point
Ensure min command is below this (so the motors are not spinning when they should not be

Set min check to a point below min throttle but above the minimum input from your throttle (to give you some dead band - typically necessary if you are using arm by stick, you need that deadband)

Hopefully you can follow that, save doing it one post at a time

Thanks for the explanation it makes a lot more sense now
There';s some variation in what CF reads in the motor test tab and what it reads in the reciever tab.
If I use motor test in CF I get startup value at 1034 but if I use the tx to start the motors CF reads startup at about 1070 in the reciever menu.
Haven';t got time to mess around with it now but I';ll check and set the values again tonight, if I set min throttle 1080 and min check to around 1050 that should get me closer to the point I need.

Lol that is rather the point, the FC uses min check and max check to bracket the working area of throttle signal from the RX, it uses min throttle and max throttle to define the signal it sends to the motors. It then scales between them.
So you use the reading on the motor tab to adjust min throttle and the reading on the RX tab along with having already established min throttle to set min check

So in your case min throttle should be set to 1044 and min check should be below that but above the min value for throttle on the RX tab. The lower you set it the less your deadband will be, but don';t forget if you arm by stick you need some deadband

Thanks Cheredanine I was wondering same thing I am going to try that myself too  :beer2:

Yep it makes even more sense at 18:30 than it did at midnight :)
The travel is now much less on the stick, throttle kicks in earlier making it loads easier to cut throttle and regain again before I drop out of the sky. Need a field test to confirm but for now I';m happy with the setup.

Thanks again, it';s people like you who take the time to pass on and explain these things that really make this community the best for support.

Oh and it saves lazy b stars like me reading endless pages of cleanflight documention haha

Could be a host of reasons first off what esc are you using?

It is a blacksheep power cube... So the escs are on the board

Could be physical issues, 1171 is absurdly high, can you connect to blheli suite and see what min throttle is set to on ESCs?

I don';t think I have any over 1040, quad I just built all spin up at 1020.

When I have seen such high values before it was either because there was a physical problem OR it was solved by setting min throttle to 1028 and recalibration the ESCs a few times
