DJI550 Naza DX9 Help??

Hello all,
Am new to drones and so is my father who purchased, a as above dji f550 , with naza gps and a dx9 along with a overlander 3s 11.1v battery.

we were fumbling our way to getting in binded, but we couldn';t get to the compass calibration.
my father activated the drone and flew it just off the ground but it wasn';t stable of course.
so we went through the bind operation and tried to get to the compass a few more times.

we found the naza assistant and we had the naza plugged into the assistant and it was responding as shown on the screen when we moved a control stick on the dx9 which has a downloaded model of the f550 .
i clicked on the calibrate start button and as i did the dx9 hasn';t responded in the same way ?

could anyone give me a complete walk through on how to get this drone in the air for my father

the naza light just flashes red when powered up

we feel like we';ve taken massive steps backwards in this and dont know how to move forward lol  :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Sk3tch

ok so ive bought it back to being responsive acording to what the tx is doing on screen on the Naza assistant on my mac!

hooray! but still having issues getting to the compass calibration
and the Naza light is constantly flashing red when not plugged into the assistant.

however when it is plugged into the assistant . when flicking the failsafe switch the bar at the bottom of the assistant stays on failsafe.

also ive noticed on the info screen when flicking the courselock homelock switch it doesnt move anything on screen where it used to before ?
any advice would be much appriciated???

Friskle

to get the switches working ass you want them to, you have to go into the TX menus and go to travel adjust / Endpoint adjustment, to alter the amount of travel for that particualr channel.

best thing to test, make sure you are on the switch you want to set up, and alter the travel adjust for that switch quite a lot at first to see the blue bar move, then you know where you are for proper adjustment.

The red flashes on the LED mean that the Naza is searching for a GPS lock. It is important to let it achieve a good lock before taking off. This is because if you have a failsafe and it goes into RTH (return to home) it will fly away from you.
To calibrate the compass you need to set up the mode switch, Attitude, GPS, manual etc 3 position switch is best. With this done you need to flick between modes several times until the light goes a solid yellow, when this happens you need to spin the multi 360 degrees with the nose pointing forward, the light will then go green, then point the nose at the ground and do another 360.
Is it a Naza lite or V2?

Sk3tch

its a Naza V2

once i get it binded it just sits there on the red flashing lights
but i am just doing all this indoors while im plugged into the wall

on my assistant the u responds to failsafe off or return home on the tx.
but i think either x1 or x2 used to respond to one of the other shoulder switches or both did ?

A E T R are all working as they should,
but on the bottom of assistant that doesnt change from failsafe when the U responds? is this normal?

Sk3tch

All my remote adjusts are inhibited on the assistant gain tab in basic
Ive got E300 esc';s so i changed the max angular rate to 300 as per the advice in the assistant the the e310 is 300 max on both.

Digit

Here';s the manual
http://dl.djicdn.com/downloads/nazam-v2/en/NAZA-M_Quick_Start_Guide_v1.26_en.pdf
The red flashing means that it is searching for GPS signals. If it is just flashing red then it is in manual mode, if it';s flashing yellow after the red then it';s in attitude mode (auto level), if it flashes green after the red then it';s in GPS hold.
You also need to set a mode switch, this is done in the RC tab on the naza assistant and is the "U" channel. You will need to assign a switch to that channel on your transmitter and play around with the end points to get it how you want it. Once you have done that you can flick between manual, GPS, Atti or failsafe depending on how you have set it up.
The first thing I would do is to set the mode switch, then take it outside and let it get a GPS lock, it will flash red depending on how many satellites it has locked. This is all explained in the manual.

Sk3tch

ok.
so ive got the gps/ atti / manual switch on switch b on the TX
and the Failsafe on switch H

how do i adjust where it sits as when its back in gps mode in still reads failsafe according to the U in the assistant.

where or how do i adjust the end points

i also took the drone outide and it changed from flashing red to flashing orange and had a couple of blinks on green before returning to amber flashing
i did notice it was red doing dash dash dot dot dot in sequence.

hoverfly

To adjust the end points  go to monitor on the t/x move switch b and note which channel moves. Then go to servo  set up, select that channel  travel adjust, then put switch b fully up and make adjustment,  then put switch fully down and adjust again. That will expand the switch range. :eating:

ok so ive adjusted the end zones so it now sits in gps mode .
and it now gives me a green dot dot flashing . ive tried clicking the gps to manual five times but didnt go into compass calibration

would i be able to activate the rotors at this point as it doesnt seem to do this by any of the combinations . but it did before when we were running through these steps before it went dead ?

ive also set up a throttle kill and think we are just the compass calibration now away from getting this thing flying

Digit

It takes more than 5 flicks, about 10/11 as far as I remember, I just flick until the light goes solid, do the calibration then let it get a fix and go flying.

Sk3tch

11 flicks didnt do it ...

my naza light is red dash dash dash green dot dot

so close lol

Sk3tch

the U channel now ive adjusted it.. isnt falling in the atti mode in between the two failsafe bars

rsmith21

You have to do the switch travel adjustments so that will give you the three modes depending on position, your almost there. :)

i have two rows of numbers , only able to adjust the top figure or am i being thick .. am pretty sure this is why im not able to get to compass

When your adjusting it do you have the switch in the middle position as per this .

Travel Adjust  ( read switch for control stick )

Travel Adjust sets the overall travel or endpoints of the servo arm

movement.

To adjust travel values:

1. Scroll to the channel you wish to adjust and press the scroll

wheel. When adjusting travel values assigned to a control

stick:

a. Center the control stick to adjust both directions at the

same time.

b. To adjust travel in one direction only, move the control

stick in the direction you wish to adjust. Continue holding

the control stick in the desired direction while you are

adjusting the travel value.

2. Scroll left or right to adjust the travel value. Press the scroll

wheel to save the selection.

Sub-Trim

Sub-Trim adjusts the servo travel center point

had a little break from the stressful ****** thing ,, got it flying thank you all so much for your advice .

only thing is i got it into manual or gps mode but on the assistant it still doesnt seem to register atti mode ?? is this normal or should i fiddle with the travels some more?

is there any way of reversing the sticks on the dx9 at all like the rudder stick and the same one on the other stick i think is aileron??

hoverfly

With the Dx9  any channel can be mapped .
Go too system settings then channel  assign,  then channel input config.

SO been getting on really well with my f500!
but i have recently upgraded it with a h4-3d gimbal but my one issue it the tilt control seems a bit beyond me at the moment i think i have everything right .. but obviously not..

i have a ar8000 , dx9 and naza v2 set up with it , the aux1 is to x2 and the aux2 is to x1. the rknob is responding to the software on the naza but the camera is not tilting. is this just because the drone is not airborne ?
or what channels do i need to assign in my dx9 ..? i think thats where my issue lies but just looking for some advice

Sk3tch

dont worry done it ,, didnt hit calibrate on the assistant !
