F550 2nd Flight Problems

Hi

Advice needed if possible

Had my maiden flight last week all great. Packed away got out today charged lipos and turned on as 1st flight. Radio then F550 and wait for GPS lights.

Powered up the motors increase throttle to just over 50% and quad flipped forward dug in the ground. Pulled throttle back but props kept going.

I had changed nothing since the first flight so really confused. The only clue i could have is that when i turned round to pick the radio back up the neighbours girl had hold of it and i think she had pressed the trim switch?

When the drone crashed it ripped off the spektrum satellite receiver so any ideas where i can buy one of these too.

Thanks

thewhittys

PropsToYou

Hey Whitty,

Have you checked all your props are on the right arms? and the right way around?
It sounds to me like a couple of your props may have been switched around which caused it to flip then as it ripped off the satellite receiver it sent it into an uneducated failsafe which over-rode your inputs.

What FC are you using?

Hi

All props are on the right way. I had a great maiden flight. All i did was recharge the battery, plug in, get home lock and GPS lock on Naza V2.

The only change was someone messed with trim rocker switches but not sure?

Cheers

PropsToYou

OK, in that case, if it wasn';t the props, and your trim wasn';t at a really extreme level, then the next most likely thing would be that the NAZA sensors weren';t reading correctly. It may have been messed up during transport or there could have been environmental factors that affected it.

Remove your props, power it up and plug it into your computer via USB. Load up the Naza assistant and compare all the sensor readouts to the DJI recommended brackets.

If all looks ok enough, unplug from your computer, take to your flight location, go through the full calibration setup and give it a whirl (making sure you';re in a safe environment in-case it';s not fully fixed)

The 2nd flight was on the same day no transport etc. thats why im confused.

I do not know where to look what my trims are set at on my 9xr. I cant even see where to look in the manual

Hi Thewhittys,

Is the answer not in this question / statement?

So we have a great flight, nothing changed and then the next flight has gone south. Something changed, and not knowing what changed means you need to go through and check everything from the beginning to the end like you did when you first set up the system, sorry to say that there are no shortcuts to be found here. Unless you know the system inside and out, which it sounds as if you don';t (no offence intended) you have to do this by the book.
The trims on the radio being adjusted could be the cause, however it might not be, and only you will be able to find the answer by following the instructions again, which for the first flight had you in a great position. Are you 100% sure you were not in manual mode? As I have seen a few people caught by this....
I will just point out that if the trims are the issue here, when you load the assistant and check the stick calibration you will see one or more of the sliders will not be in the correct place and need to be adjusted and re-calibrated to move forward. I would still urge you not to try and dive in have way through until you have a better understanding of the system, knowledge comes from learning, leaning comes from making your own mistakes, learning from them and not doing them again is the knowledge.
If you have found "something" that you are not sure about, post it up here and I will be happy to help confirm its right or wrong, we build a good number of these systems.

Hi Martin

Thanks for the in depth reply.

I guessed i would have to start from scratch but couldnt figure out where i could find trim settings. I didn';t realise that the assistant would pick this up.

Thank you all for your help

DarkButterfly

OK let';s start from the top, reset the trims to neutral, plug your aircraft into the computer and launch the assistant, go to the RC and verify your flight modes and stick inputs, run a radio calibration.
Next make sure your aircraft is level and run an IMU calibration, disconnect from the computer.
Power cycle the aircraft and calibrate the compass.
Why use 4 motors when you can use 6?

Oh boy sounds dodgy with young girl messing up the tx.  Yeah hook up the assistant and check the RC controls are working as expected on the dji GUI assistant software.
Tripple check failsafe RTL while you';re at it. Check Radio off ffailsafe too.

You need a fellow experienced dji naza user to help you out by the looks. Even if just to verify things, for your own confidence and sanity with the mega steep learning curve you';ve given yourself.

Hi All

Wow so much help thank you very much.

My biggest problem is i cannot find where my trims are set on my 9xr. I have read the manual and it talks about sub trims etc but i thought i would be able to find something that would tell me what the rockers are set at.

Im in Lincolnshire near Cleethorpes but i dont mind travelling :)

I think we might be a little far apart for you to call by, I guess about 3-4 hours on a good run.

The trims, or the switches that control the trims are the small "tabs" or "rocker switches" that are placed below and beside the two sticks, these are normally black in colour. When you move one you will either hear a sound or see sliding icon in the LCD of the radio. Most that use sound will increase and decrease in pitch when you move them and confirm centre with a beep, the ones with graphical display will show a bar moving up and down a line. When in the centre you will normally see it change to a solid block.

I would not go off through the radio menus to look at sub trims and end points, you might find that you have gone down a rabbit hole.  ;)

You could always reset the radio and start off a fresh, however....... you will not have gained any knowledge from doing so and it could be a 30 second fix to have you up and running from where you are now.

Keep us updated on the progress.

Regards

Martin.

Ok so new development

Firstly i found one of satellite receivers had broken in the crash. :( Ordered a new one with same part number Spektrum 9645. It has arrived but the little sticker on the bottom says HA507B not HA110B. No red light on it when i power up drone. Is it wrong?

Took the props off turned on tx plugged naza into usb and powered up. All booted up ok but i have no comms between the tx and the drone. Checked all the wires and all seem ok. The Orange Transmitter module on the radio is flashing 3 times which im sure it hasnt done before.

Has the crash fubared everything :(

thewhittys

Sorry forget most of above post. If i plug the broken sat rx in it all works and can re calibrate etc but with new rx no comms between radio and drone so must be the wrong one.

I have searched everywhere for a new one and they all say compatible parts but obviously not. I have 2 sat rx on the drone so any ideas where i can get one with the code HA110b.

Cheers

Disconnect the satellite receiver and try re-binding the Tx to the receiver.

All is ok if i dont plug in the new satellite receiver so the new receiver must be the wrong one?

guest325

Have you got a mix of dsm2 and dsmx? If so it won';t work; you should bind with the satellite installed but as I said if you';ve got a mix it won';t work.

thewhittys

Hi Darrell

The existing receivers DSM with a big X on the front and model number says 9645 but on a little sticker it says HA110B

The new has exactly the same model number 9645 and the X on the front but on the little sticker it has HA507B. On the packaging it says DSMX receiver

How would i find out if it is X or 2?

Cheers

thewhittys

Talking of binding do i need to bind to my new dsmx?

Talking of binding do i need to bind to my new dsmx?
NOTE: If you are using a receiver as well as sarellites, make sure that all satellite antennas are plugged in. The receiver will not bind properly without them.
So rebind the whole system. DSM with X by it is dsmx; dsm2 is the older system that has a simpler protocol  and can be less reliable in an environment where lots of people are flying.

thewhittys

Ok

Well i have looked at the manual and cannot figure out how to bind the dsmx with my AR10000.

I think i am going to bite the bullet and re bind everything and my 9xr as i cannot get my Naza to go into failsafe mode with loss of radio. I have had a look round and it says i need to re bind the radio to get this to work. Then create a new model from scratch.

Any advice or help on doing this would be massively appreciated.

Cheers
Steve
