So I';ve finally got a couple of hours to spend on getting my Taranis set up and I';ve realised I';m not quite sure where to start.
A few people have mentioned I should flash/upgrade the firmware and whilst I could just google how to do that, I';m not even sure what version people would recommend me to go to.

If anyone';s got any starters tips, I';d be much obliged

Hi Props,
I have just gone through all this upgrading palava....Honest, it was a pain.  But I was starting at knowing nothing about it and now I know a fair bit..I doesn';t take that long to get the measure of the radio in general, so don';t panic. :frantic:

Firstly I couldn';t upgrade the stock FRsky firmware (OpenTX) using the newest versions of Companion.  I had to use the oldest available version of Companion, I think it was 2.0.11 but it might have even been 9x. This enabled me to start flashing away to bring the Taranis firmware up to the level of Open TX firmware that Companion could talk to.  Then I could get the new version of Companion 2.1.1.

One thing that caused me major grief was that I had a new EU approved firmware X4r-SB and there wasn';t the firmware for the Taranis that could make it work until 2.1.0.  This version then gives you the option to find and install the EU version of the OPENTX firmware by ticking EU box in the flashing options.   This 2.1.0  firmware talks to the new EU RX';s FINE.

I also had problems getting the Taranis to connect via USB 3 ports until 2.1.0 then I could only connect via USB 3 and my USB 2 ports still don';t let me connect...However there was some pretty major surgery carried out on my device manager and system drivers so they might be a little bent now...Certainly the not connecting via USB 3 ports is a well known issue.

I also had to upgrade my bootloader from the stock version to something newer and better....For some reason.  I can';t remember exactly how it was done but I remember it was done by plugging in the TX in without putting the TX into bootloader mode.  Just plugging it it and not holding in the trim tabs when turning it on.....

I got some top class help from Quadfather to sort all this out and by the time we got to this bit it was getting pretty late and my brain was a bit fried by this stage :-)

However now I have it all upgraderised to the latest version of OpneTX and Companion 2.1.1 and its all very nice indeed.

Hope this helps a bit
