Has the Naza helped me or not

I went out for a flight today and when i arrived home i noticed that since fitting a Naza lite gps flight control system to my 250 quad i have learned to fly left to right and vice versa, banked turns, and generally feeling a bit more confident.

I will admit I fly my quad in ATTI mode and I have yet to try MANUAL mode but my thinking is at the back of my mind what has really changed is it knowing that I have FAILSAFE features to help me or has it been just a coincidence and my ability has improved slightly and if so why after almost five years.

My guess is that due to the safety net of the Naza you are more relaxed and that has helped your flying. You are less worried about what happens if you get disorientated so you just fly  ::)

Happy Flying.
I try :-)

Hey up Ched

You could be right but i don';t want to be subconsciously relying on the Naza but on saying that I still crash quite a bit on grass but luckily my prop guards appear to be saving the day each time.  :o

What i just cannot get me head around is why after almost five years of trying to fly my ability has got better since fitting the Naza or is it just a coincidence.

ched

Dave, as you get better your confidence in your own ability grows and thus you are less reliant on the safety net that the Naza can provide.

I strongly believe lack of confidence is in itself something that actually hampers your brain and makes you think you can';t do things. If you are confident you can do something it will be easier to accomplish. Just look at all the sports people who have 100% faith that they will win. Boxers especially, they are 100% confident they will win bu one of them is going to lose!!!

So confidence is a great tool to help you accomplish things no matter if it';s deserved or not  ::) ::) ::) ::)

Happy Flying
I try :-)

Hey Dave, what flight control did you have on the 250 before?

I think its certainly a lot based on confidence. For 2 years I zipped around on a Naza and only had a handful of accidents with it. Then I switched to a 250 with CC3D and it was definitely a knock to confidence. Even flying in Attitude mode I had little confidence and ability to fly at first, I persisted, crashed a lot, and 3 months on i';m really happy flying the 250 even in rate mode.

For me it was definitely the lack of safety net that got to me at first, after realising that crashing a carbon 250 only really broke props my confidence spiked and I pushed the boat out to fly rate. I';m now happy doing flips at head height, pulling triple barrel rolls, and zooming in out about trees. It really wasnt hard to learn, the ability was already there but my confidence held me back at first.

Anyhow I still fly my Naza on my camera rig but the good thing is that I can fly the Naza in rate mode too.

With all that said, you may also find that the Naza is much more stable and friendly compared to some other flight controls.

Hi NorcoT

I had a full Naze32 fitted in the 250 before the Naza and I have had a Blade Nano QX for a few years now and really whacked the Nano in the walls and only broke props.

I suppose at the end of the day it depends what you want to do with your flying

a NAZA will give you that "nail to the sky" capability which can instill great confidence, its a very capable flight controller
a Naze32 or equivalent will give you a more directly connected feel and can still do RTH of a sort and a rough loiter, but its not like the NAZA for that, what it does give you is very smooth flying in either self level or acro for  a very small price

I';ve found there is a danger with some of the better equipped flight controllers that they do some or a lot of the flying for you, and for me that takes the fun out of it

horses ... courses .... both are great

Cheers
Phil
Many Thanks

That is what i was thinking is it the Naza or have i improved but i guess the stick movements are possibly the same no matter what flight controller.

I think it defo helps if the craft flys well for confidence and have some good orientation devises like a tail or pink ping pong ball on the front or both
I';ve recently stuck a ping pong ball on the front of my 450 like you see in a lot of pictures
And suddenly I can fly it like my 250 with the tail on
Till it nearly out of sight

bazzerh

just having something up in the air for a full pack is going to increase your co-ordination, orientation, thumb skills and confidence. the naza is a bit ploddy compared to most miniquad flight controllers but if you';re enjoying it and getting more air time with it then its all good. I';m really enjoying my new plane purchases and they will definitely increase my LOS confidence with the quads. end of the day its whatever floats your boat (or quad) that counts

it just makes sense

I  reckon that flying something like this would be a great confidence booster regardless of FC!!!
