Ynot6

mine arrived today, put together, not stuck at all yet, they seem fine.
440 Y6 with vector, F330 quad with naza, hammer 240 with flip32, and watch this space.

I tried mine out last night around the house. I was worried i would have focusing issues but for me it seems i can almost put the lens anywhere and still have clear focus on the screen.. well it works and im impressed :)

I did however have issues at first with the monitor not picking up the signal properly. I think the programming built into the monitor to select the ';best'; channel automatically doesnt work very well with a black and white video feed. As it was dark in my house my CCD fpv camera switched to B&W, as a result the quanum monitor wouldnt pick up the input and kept flicking about on the two input channels to look for a better signal.

Took a while to figure that out but when i stuck the camera out the window this morning the camera switched to colour and monitor picked up the input no problem. I tried again in dark room with the camera in B&W and the problem comes back. So its definitely that. The problem only happens on the monitors initial startup though, after its picked up the channel for the first time it then doesnt seem to matter if its colour or B&W.

Might be an issue for people planning on flying with night vision cams

Hi - Hoping to get me some of these... what camera and receiver is best to go for with these? I';ve literally built my first quadcopter with maiden flight last night, so a complete newb! Is there anything else needed?

(QAV250 | Flip32 | Taranis X9D Plus)

NorcoT

Hi Zeratul. Congrats on the Maiden :) You';re going to be buzzing along before you know it.

Its hard to define the ';best'; camera / vtx / vrx combination. Good point to start is how much do you want to spend? I guess you';re looking at budget / starter kit if you are looking at Quanums.

Boscam do good receivers. If you want really cheap then the Boscam RC302 is great value for money, the RC805 is a little fancier with easier channel switching or for a little more then the FR362 is a diversity Rx. These will set you back from between £10 to £40.

For Transmitters / Cameras, there are a lot of bundles out there which are good value for money. For cheap try the Eachine VTx and Camera bundles from Banggood (They have some UK warehouse stock too which arrives quicker than ordering from the china warehouse). For £15 to 20 you can get a camera and vtx. The CMOS cameras they come with have a little criticism but I found it enough to start with, you can always upgrade that later. The transmitter is more than capable though and its tiny.

Anyhow thats just my opinion, plenty more advice of transmitter, receiver, camera selection around this forum.

Thanks NorcoT - Plenty to look into there  ~~

I don';t want to buy too much on a budget - How does it work - the more you send the better image quality you receive? or the more you spend the smaller and lighter they get? I';m after a happy medium!

FR632 - £36
Cam RX - £19

Is this on the lines I would need? where do the mushroom antennas come into play?!

Hands0n

The combination Eachine Camera and VTX bundle is a superb value bit of kit.  The VTX is a full 32-channel job that covers all allowable 5.8 frequencies and kit (ie. Fat Shark, Boscam, others ...).

The camera, as NorcoT says, is definitely a budget bit of kit, but it works rather well.  Only 600tvl the quality of image is actually rather surprisingly good.  Where it does let down is in the transitions from dark to light, say moving or pointing from shadow to light, where the image sensor takes a short while to catch up with the light.  It is only about a second or so, but can irritate some, and is suboptimal for fast use, such as in FPV racing.

But the camera can be later replaced for something much quicker, and perhaps higher number of tvl resolution  - the top end is 900tvl iirc.

What I have found, however, is the image cast on the 5in Quanum screen is simply superb and makes up for any low tvl. It really is surprisingly good! ~~

So... to get FPV up and running from scratch would be under £100 (Quanum V2, Rx, TX & Cam.)  ::)

What about the mushroom antennas!

NorcoT

Oh yes, antenna wise the favourite are circular polarised antenna (mushrooms as you said). These provide good all round coverage and good penetration through trees etc. Theyre better than the standard rubber ducks thats come with the tx and rxs. But to start out the standard antenna that comes with the tx and rx are okay, just dont fly too far away [emoji14]

Gav on here makes and sells antenna, from the feedback these seem to be the bees knees :) they will set you back about £35 for the pair?.. again this can always be a later upgrade.

I';ve done a few searches to see if anyone had the same problem but couldn';t find anything. Where did you read about it?

Received my set last week and after 3-4 connections, where it all worked great, it suddenly failed. When powering up, the backlit fill the screen and then gradually fade to gray. No messages on the screen and the menu button does not work.

I powered it with a 3S lipo which should be within the voltage range that';s given on the HK product page (13V). I have made an enquiry to HK but they have not answered yet.

Anyone got a replacement?

budvar

No I had modified the cables so didn';t even attempt to get a refund.
Sounds like a similar failure.
