Need advice on props

Since receiving my F550 a few weeks ago i was running with 1038 DJI props. After a small "mishap" i chipped one of them and wasstruggling to find one at short notice so switched to the 838 props i was given as spares.

I dont actually know what props i should be running and what will give me the best flight times. I assumed the 10" props would work the motors less and give more flight time but apparently its not that simple!

I am running a DJI F550 hex with Naza M-Lite with E300 propulsion (2212 motors) with an 8000mAh 4s li-po carbon gimbal and go pro. I dont know the weight sorry.

Can anybody suggest what the best props would be for this setup?

On 4S with that setup on a quad I would use 9x4.5';s ; 10x3.8 would possibly give you a better flight time but be more pushed about if it';s windy. I don';t think that there should be any difference with a hex, the loading on the motors/esc';s should be the same.

It';s simple question but unfortunately has an ambiguous answer. You can get a rough idea from what is supplied with the motors, but the truth is that you have to buy and try. The only way to know for sure it to fit one to your craft and do a load test, ideally with a servo tester (because FCs almost never send a 100% throttle command to the ESCs).

Then, even if you find a prop that loads the motors up nicely, you might not like how they fly. High pitch props are good for speed but feel vague in a hover. Low pitch props are great in a hover and are efficient, but lack speed. This is also effected my motor speed, so kv and lipo cell count have a big part to play.

I went thought this recently with an F450, similar spec to yours. We tried all sorts, but settled on 10x4.5 APC MR props. A good all round prop IMO.

DJI recommend 8" props on 4cells. check motors for heat if you use bigger props.
440 Y6 with vector, F330 quad with naza, hammer 240 with flip32, and watch this space.

I';ve got a f550 with the new self tightening props.
I find them quite robust had a few mishaps with them and they lucky have survived.
But I would be interested to what others have used for longer flight times. I';m not wanting speed.
Got to say though those props they supply are great in the wind I';ve flown in some windy conditions and it stayed put while hovering.
Is it ok to use non captive nut props and but the correct threaded domed nut and used.

I just ordered some 1045 APC props that seem decent. Should be fitted tomorrow with my new gimbal for a test flight.

10x4.5 APC MR props are pretty good
