Diversity box or Skyzones?

I';m currently running a fairly standard setup on my 250, with an aomway 200mW VTX and fatsharks. However, now I am starting to look at events a little later in the year I';m going to want a legal VTX with 32ch (I have an immersion 25mW but it';s only 8ch or something pitiful like that I think). If I';m going down to 25mw I think I definitely want a diversity system so I can stick a cloverleaf and a patch on there.

Looking at my options, I can see there';s two ways to go.
I can either buy a separate diversity RX box to feed into my fatsharks or I can sell my fatsharks and get Skyzones.

The latter should only cost £100 in total after the sale of my FS'; is taken into account but is that the best option or should I go external? What';s peoples opinions?
Also, do you have any decent 32ch VTX';s that you';d recommend?

Do you really need diversity? or is it just another gimmick so you part with your cash?
Might be better off getting some decent antennas?
Are you having problems at the moment with your preds?
Also if you are racing there';s only 4 on a track at a time, so only 4 channels are going to be used? Why do you need 32?

Food for thought mate before you spend your hard earned.

Though if you are wanting to go the upgrade path the skyzones are supposed to be good as are the V2 doms?

I';ve not used them so I can';t comment, but I do know that my quanum V2 are better (for me) than the preds and my friends that uses the preds agrees that the image from the quanums is excellent he doesn';t like the large screen.

If you can try before you buy that would be the best option, though I think when you buy off line you are covered by the distance selling laws?

It';s useful if you have different antennas on the RX, for example a clover and a patch or helical.  Not much use if you use two rubber ducks.

I think you';ll get better reception with a diversity rx on a tripod. I';ve used both skyzones and tripod system and the tripod wins hands down. I use a small patch on my skyzone goggles with a cloverleaf and its Ok if you get your head pointed where it needs to be but that';s much easier with a tripod obviously.

As for a new 25mw vtx I';ve just received a FT951 but it';s only 22 channels and the extra useful ones that avoid the fstshark band completely aren';t there. Must be other 32 channel 25mw vtx out there but I only looked at banggood

The main reason I';m buying is for 32ch and 25mw (legal) but as I';ll be downgrading from 200mW and having experienced 25mW on a single cloverleaf, I would want a diversity set up to have a cloverleaf and a patch (or something to that effect) to improve signal.

Reading the rules it sounds like it makes life a lot easier if you';ve got the full range as they pre-assign everyone before the race so it means you don';t need to change frequency/channel as you work your way through the heats.

The Quanums do look good but they';re just too bulky for me. I';m not fussed about having them on my head, but I already have so much stuff to lug around with me through fields when finding my perfect flying spot, I don';t want an extra thing to take with me.

Unless you';ve got a tracker, what would make the tripod setup more effective than the same diversity rig on your head?

I think any antenna is going to work better when it';s in its own free space and not attached to a water filled sack like your head. Also with a helical or patch you can point it rock steadily at a problem area whereas your head, or at least mine, moves around and it';s hard to concentrate on head position and fpv control at same time. I also like to sit while fpving which doesn';t help with reception if antennas are on goggles

Hmm, so a tripod diversity set-up then. Hmm, thanks for all the advice guys, really appreciate it :)
