Hi all

I am looking for recommendations for a camera for a Boscam TS351 transmitter but not expensive in case i cannot take to FPV and i was looking for a camera on a board or small case type.

Dave

I use Sony ccd 600tlv cams on all my quads fantastic bit of kit for 20 ish quid the only thing I can say is don';t go to cheap  because you won';t enjoy your fpv experience due to grainy  picture bad light response and such. Hope this helps Doug

I have four Sony Exmor CCTV cameras on my surveillance system and they are great in the dark.

This is the one I have just ordered for £13.32. http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free-Shipping-to-RU-1-3-SONY-CCD-Effio-E-DSP-700TVL-2-1mm-Lens-CCTV/917279745.html
It is a Sony CCD (ccd much better than cmos),1/3 = sensor size in fractions of inch (bigger better), 700tvl (going more doesn';t actually do much as pal is limiting factor), 2.1mm lens = about 150 degree very wide angle (maybe too wide?) 2.8mm more normal, effio = supposed to be better colours. Having a menu and control button can help setting up. The menu cable comes off so lighter for flight.

One thing that people like is WDR = wide dynamic range = better for fast dark (shadows) to light transitions. My one doesn';t list wdr but i will give it a go.
Last thing I can think of is backlight compensation, this is to try and compensate for the sun in front of the camera.
There is something about ir cut but I can';t remember if that is good or bad.
Hope that gives you a few ideas.
I try :-)

these 2 if buying from UK

http://www.tecnic.co.uk/Sony-600tvl-Super-HAD-CCD-28-PZ0420.html
http://www.tecnic.co.uk/FPV-Sony-600-TVL-CCD-Mini-Camera-for-Racing-Quad-28x28mm-Low-Lag.html

If going overseas

http://www.surveilzone.com/dc5v-plastic-case-sony-super-had-ccd-700tvl-mini-camera-2525mm-2.8mm-lens-hs1180
http://shop.runcam.com/runcam-pz0420m/

used them all and would recommend all.

myself and friends have tried buying ';too good to be true'; ccds and effios for peanuts and guess what? they were rubbish. crucial bit of fpv kit and you cant use duff cameras.

Best cam I';ve tried so far

EDIT: or.. http://shop.runcam.com/runcam-pz0420m/

Is there somewhere in the UK that sells these or a similar camera or has anyone got one they are willing to sell as I prefer buying from members or the UK

Dave.

these look identical to pz0420m, thats why i recommended them previously

http://www.tecnic.co.uk/FPV-Sony-600-TVL-CCD-Mini-Camera-for-Racing-Quad-28x28mm-Low-Lag.html

25 mm hole to hole so some tinkering required to mount them

if its the metal cased cam version you want then i have got a runcam SKY for sale maybe. used though.

I';ve got one of these and I can confirm it';s as good as my pz0420. The main reason I got it was it';s rated up to 25v, so can cope with 4s straight out of the can so I only need a 5v pololu for the naze. All the vtx';s I have just seem to pass the +ve straight through so you end playing silly buggers with all sorts of voltages.

It says it';s the same spec as a PZ0420, but it doesn';t say what lens it comes with. You want 2.8mm really.

Has anyone got one with a 2.8mm lens for sale then.

Surely one of you FPV chaps or chapesses have one of these cameras sitting around doing nothing and for sale plus just think of the benefits of selling me one at s fair price.
Firstly I will see if FPV with a screen is for me, secondly extra pennies for you towards your next purchase and thirdly recycling is good for the environment.

I';ve got one of these for sale

no bracket for it but i could get one printed which are better than the metal ones (made of cheese) and the wires have been cut to a couple of inches in length. osd joystick included.

good cams but just a tad heavy for my taste. lot of people on here use them mind.

Hi bazzerh

How does this camera connect up to a Boscam TS351 TX or is the wiring the same on all of them and also what is an OSD joystick do.

Can you post some pictures and  a price by PM or on here

Just thought what is the video quality like as I know nothing about FPV and cameras.

Thanks Dave

bazzerh

it connects to the vtx via some wires that you will solder together. it looks exactly the same as the one in the link, minus a bracket. the osd joystick opens an on screen menu where you can change the settings like white balance, colour gains, wdr etc. video quality is as you';d expect for a good fpv cam. if interested i';ll pm you a price

Normally you have to solder the camera cables to the vtx cables. Just 0v, +ve supply, and the video out.
The osd joystick is just plugged in to setup things like contrast, brightness etc. Once setup it can be unplugged to save weight.
I try :-)

there is a wdr. not sure if its d-wdr but there is definitely a wdr on it. i dont know what all the prefixes mean but they all work similarly im guessing? i know theres one cos i got a bit confused as its got a high and low level setting and i had them both on max, which meant it didnt actually kick in the wdr as both start and finish levels were the same. moved min to min and it worked a treat

I don';t have a camera, but I do have a couple of 2.8mm lenses that should fit, should you not get the right one. I';ve killed a couple of FPV cameras so sensibly kept them!

Ah right, I stand corrected, I wish they';d put that on their site. AFAIK D-WDR and WDR are the same thing, at least as far as these cams are concerned. D-WDR is digital wide dynamic range.

bazzerh

it is a bit off putting. i bought them as i was recommended them so didnt peruse the blurb that closely. as a camera they work well but the bracket and supplied bolts to hold them together are garbage. seen much better brackets made from old tobacco tins

Have a look at this: http://www.hobbyrc.co.uk/hs1177-plastic-cased-mini-board-camera-sony-super-had-ccd-with-600tvl-ir-blocked

It';s in UK and may be ideal? Awaits comments......

I';ve got one of these too. It';s good, but not as good as the PZ0420. Might just be mine or the way I';ve set it up, but it has issues with white-balance sometimes - things go purple.

The OSD is also a bit of a ball-ache as you have to plug it in, then feed 12v to the camera and the video out to either your goggles or a monitor. It';s not like the board cams where you just plug the OSD into a mini jst-plug.

you might need to set a manual white balance, bit of a pain on the osd front like you say. ive added a cable for osd onto the main plug with a single jr style connector the other end. havent got round to hacking the osd lead  but im sure it will plug in and work. might need to ground the osd joytick as well im thinking though.

i agree though the plain old sony super had-II ccd pz0420 is an amazing fpv camera. hard to get very high angle on it though being a big old board type. can get the little plastic cased ones 45deg no problem

The PZ0420M is the newer smaller version.

Also worth mentioning... after watching another of Bruce';s vids last night, it seems DSP is one to avoid for 250 use as the signal processing noticeably increases lag.
