Battery hot and a little "puffy"

The battery I had go puffy, i think one of the cells are damaged. Charges too quick, and voltage says 3.40 on cell 1 and 4.40 with 2 and 3. Sometimes counts to 5 cells.
Sounds like it';s dead, you should only have 0.1V absolute max between cells.
If I were you I would get shut before you have a conflagration  ~~ ~~ ~~

what charger are you using , is it set to ballance charge? , lipo should never get up to 4.4v , 4.2v is max .

I put an old duff lipo 3s on a car charger to see what would happen , and it went bang big time, probably because it was charging over 4.2v on the 2 good cells.

I';d stick that battery outside ASAP.

bazzerh

have a look at the individual cell voltages using a multimeter, if they are what the lipo tester is saying then discharge it with a bulb and get rid of it, in the usual manner
Round By Round Qualifying and Finals For All.

it just makes sense

Nic

Discharging it with the charger now, see what happens. Then I';ll try balance charge it.

Elmattbo

That charger will only take it down to 3.3v per cell when in discharge mode - I think I have the same one. Don';t even think about trying to balance it afterwards. If a cell has less than 3.2V or more than 4,2V for any period of time, it';s finished. The chemistry in the cell changes and although it might seem ok, you can';t trust it. Finish the discharge cycle and then look to get rid of it. Store it outside until you do. Batteries are less than a tenner, it isn';t worth it.

I';ve decided by battery is fubar, so, looking at these..

I tend to get about 20 minutes out of my 2200mah';s, just wondering if anyone will know what sort of time i';d get out of these? As I know they';ll be much lighter I guess.

Or what about 2S 7.4V batteries?

I';m assuming you';re flying a 250 sized quad with the usual motors and props.  Apart from the rip-off prices the first ones are giving you enough juice to supply 8A per motor (less if you include other stuff you may have on your quad).  Depending on what props and motors you have you may find yourself dipping into the "boost" capacity of the lipo when you open up the throttle.  Personally, I tend to go for batteries that can supply the maximum power required (and then some) as their base rating and ignore the boost rating.

How much current you need depends on your motor and prop combo and your flying style really.  Let';s say the quad draws 10A on full throttle per motor, that';s 40A drawn from the battery.  With a 1300mAh pack that means at least 30C.  Since I don';t like running the battery so close to the limit I';d go for 35C, but realistically higher to make sure the battery has the punch I';d want without stressing itself.  This is less of an issue if you';re floating about more than aggressive flying.  Like I said, it depends on what and how you fly.

The second is not enough to get you off the ground.  2S just doesn';t cut it, unless you';re flying some micro frame with high-Kv motors.

Yeah, flying a ZMR250, with 5 inch props and EMAX 1806-2280KV Motors,

Running a FPV camera and Vtx off the PDB with LEDS front and back.

I don';t know my flying style yet, still learning. I';m trying hover, low down and high. Also trying straight speed, tight turning and just generally messing around.

I';m tempted to change my power connector to XT60 as there just seems to be more variety about in batteries!

I';m after a smaller battery ( As the 2200 is rather large on the top of my quad. ) But not sure which!

you could always buy the one that';s already been recommended on page one

Just have before you commented lol.

Ordered a XT60 connector also.  :frantic:

I had deans connectors for the first month, but the lack of battery choice made me dump deans and move to xt60, not looked back

Yeah, i';ve realised that now. Ordered a new wire with a XT60 connector. And batteries with XT60.
