Spektrum DX7 and Naza GPS ....

When I got my Naza with GPS I had an old JR TX that was 35mhz - I converted it to 2.4 ghz myself ... but on getting the Naza decided that a new purpose built 2.4ghz TX was in order .

Funds were limited so I got a Spektrum DX6i brand new for £80 - but there';s no 3 position switch so I fiddled about with watching videos on YT and the like and finally got it going pretty much ok by using mixing and stuff and got it going on Atti/GPS and a Failsafe mixed on another switch (No manual mode).

Well this week in a fit of pique and swallowing hard I saw a Spektrum DX7 on ebay and it seemed like I might get it pretty reasonably - the DX6i will go in ebay to part fund - so I looked around and sure enough there';s a 3 position flap switch ... well I got it today and have discovered to my disappointment that there may be different variations on the DX7 as mine doesn';t have a 3 position flap switch - but does have a 3 position flight mode switch.

Well I';ve just been tearing my hair out trying to get that one 3 position switch to work on the Naza assistant so that I get ATTI/GPS/Manual and it seems that whilst it will work with a mix like on the DX6i I can';t for the life of me work out how to get it how I';d like it ...

With GEAR on the RX plugged into ';U'; on the Naza I get a similar set up to the DX6i - although there is quite clearly a 3 position Flap set up in the TX settings ... One chap on YT suggests plugging the ';U'; on Naza into AUX on the RX and yes that does get the 3 position switch to work for GPS/ATTI/Failsafe ... but still no MANUAL ... and now no chance of mixing as now GEAR is not connected on the RX.

So I';m COMPLETELY stumped

Can anyone help ... or do I shove both of them on ebay and get something else

I am well PI$$ED OFF  :frantic: :frantic:

okay dude no expert on spekky stuff but can you not get the gps/atti/manual by adjusting endpoints of the aux channel, then set up some sort of a mix between a spare 2 channel switch like gear and your aux channel used for GPS/Atti/manual to force the aux channel into failsafe, this would be done by using the spare channel as a master and the aux channel as slave then adjust % of slave channel to go into failsafe when switch is engaged??

Like I say not overly clued up on spektrum so may not be the case but this is similar to how I done it on my 9C!

Well that sounds very good ... if only I could begin to understand it

Good try . but you';re talking to a complete dunce when it comes to this setting up stuff ... I haven';t a clue where to begin what you are trying to describe.... sorry  :blink :blink

I';m still searching ........

Just found these 2 sentences

QuoteCan I program 3 way flap switch for controlling mann...atti...and GPS?

yes You use the sub trim to make atti enabled, then use end points for man/gps

What are these ';End points'; you go on about  .....

There';s just GOT to be a way to crack this  :-k

Some screen shots would help no end ... anyone got a DX7 that could help ??

dude do you have the manual, this will tell you where and how to adjust endpoints and subtrims, you should really learn this stuff if you plan on flying quads/anything, with dx7 if i remember correctly you push down button and little button on left at same time to access menu';s in here you should find subtrims and endpoints, it will all be in the manaul which if you dont have a quick search should be able to find it to download!!

Heres the solution to your problem read the manual  but if you cant be bothered to read through it you might want to try this  ::)  ~~

Hold down scroll down and select and then turn the power on
you should then be in the startup menu
Scroll through the menu untill you find the screen like the picture below and make sure all 3 items are Off as shown

[attach=1]

After you have checked / altered that screen scroll through untill you find the screen below and alter it so it is the same as shown this will make the 3 way flight mode switch work on the aux2 channel you can check its function through the monitor, if it works the wrong way around for you then you can reverse the channel once you have restarted your radio to get out of the setup screen push scroll down and select together again  ~~

[attach=2]

Another little trick you can do with the DX7 thats not in the book is rather than press scroll down and select to enter the menu';s press scroll up and select this will show you a list of all the menus and you can quickly scroll to the one you want rather than cycling through them all  ~~

Thanks Gaza ... I';ve actually seen both of those screens and done just what you';ve said except the ';Trim : INH'; on the bottom of the second screen.

I knew I was in the right sort of area ... I';ll just have to battle on .....

I am sure my DX7 manual is written in swahili ... but I';ve got Google translate I suppose

Certainly sounds like you have the switch inhibited.

I setup a Dx8 on naza for a chap, was a fair bit of messing around but I got there in the end.

Out of interest, does your 7 have a turny-knob adjuster or not?  I was looking at the Dx7 myself but looks like maybe that';s only on the Dx7S?

Nope - no turny knob things .. just a sh*t load of 2 position switches and one 3 position  :frantic:

thanks for that...one of the reasons I';ve avoided "upgrading" from my 6i to a 7S or 8...only one turny knob and yet a cheapo turnigy 9x has 3 plus a load of 3 position switches.  Weird.

Update ...

On another forum, which is US based, I have been given the email address of a chap in Montreal who is talking me through (metaphorically) achieving exactly what I want to get to on the DX7 using heli settings not acro settings - it uses a single servo swash and 3 different flat pitch ';curves'; set to the 3 position switch giving the 3 modes on Naza - and the throttle hold giving Failsafe......

I can';t explain it but if it works (as I am assured it will) I';ll post the instructions I';ve been given  :azn

On the email it sounds easy (too easy  :o)  .... we';ll see when I battle through it ... I hate setting up TXs ... control line was so easy  :whistling:

Well bless my soul ... it works ... brilliantly  ~~

For the first time I have GPS / ATTI / MANUAL on one 3 position switch - and Failsafe on another 2 position switch .... and as a result I have been able to easily do the GPS compass calibration too.

This is forums at their very very best ... me sat in a little bungalow in Cornwall in the far south west of the UK being assisted with a model related problem by a guy I';ve never even met in Canada who was put on to me by another guy I';ve never even met in Canada  ~~

Astonishing .... but brilliant   Cool

In the interests of forum life I shall post the solution in another thread as it may help others .. it is quite simple but nonetheless brilliant in it';s lateral thinking  :notworthy:

Have you tried looking into the Turnigy 9X Steve, cheap and a good setup from what i can see. The only pitfall i can see is it';s not dsm2/X but you can buy a module to change that...From HK, where else, $29.99.
