The micro FPV thread

More testing tonight. My worst fears about motor noise are unfortunately founded. Low throttle (50% ish) causes all sorts of video interference :( Fortunately, raiding my components drawer yielded a small inductor, 390uH to be precise. While bigger than ideal for this application, it more or less eliminates noise when inline on the positive rail. Might drill some holes in the hood and place it up top eventually.

Still testing with my Mobius...

Oh, and loom bands rock!  :whistling:

My camera from Banggood is in the UK  ::) TBH I have no time this weekend so it';s moot

This is the one: http://www.banggood.com/FPV-HD-Mini-Ultra-Light-3g-520-Line-Cable-Camera-for-RC-Model-p-951121.html

I think it';s a MC900A or a very similar clone, really looking forward to getting to play with it! My mind has been wandering to a frame upgrade already, as there is little room on the 107D shell for mounting bits, Choices are either the carbon micro H posted earlier or a rather intriguing frame from SOSx on RCGroups...

~12g and £21.50, UK sourced so quick delivery or

~15g and £25.50, internaltional so slowish delivery. But awesome. Either will allow for more room, bigger batteries and better Chaoli motors... Probably talking to myself but it';s nice to have a build log and reference back in the future  :beer2:

Damn it DD ... now I';ve got another project to start !!!

kilby

Have to admit that I want something considerably smaller than my 250, but larger than Hubsan x4 for quite some time

This has moved from would like to need since our club has lost it';s (outdoor) flying site so the only organised flying is in a gym at the moment (and the 250 is a bit too macho for that when coupled with my flying ability)

Ideally the solution would be FPV and able to heft a Mobius without issues and it would be nice if it could cope with the great outdoors when ';normal'; UK weather is in residence. Also something a little more exotic than a regular quad would be entertaining (micro tri, vtail, hex or X8)
Not much kit, but what I have I like
Armattan Tilt 2, Morphite 180, Quark 150, Decapitated NanoQX
Taranis+

DebianDave

Heh, my X4 with transmitting gear is lighter than a Mobius on it';s own

Camera arrived to work, forgot I had used this address!

Apparently 3g cased and 1g uncased. Can';t confirm but either way it';s tiny and light. I notice Banggod have changed the listing since I bought this one... It now states 5v-24v, it was 3.6v - 9v hmmm...

I really like the SOSx frame ... going to have to keep an eye open for that one ... I';d love to be able to use my "proper" Radio for indoor flying even without FPV ... it would do wonders for the Muscle memory.

BradWii on toy grade FCs... Bit of a hack about and nowhere near as polished as a dedicated board, but it';s getting there!

Been a while since I posted in here, nothing much to add as have been busy elsewhere. Of some tips for video feed from a chap who posts under the name of Return2Flight on RCGroups r.e. my video noise issues, so have ordered a selection of step up/down bucks, some caps and if needs be I';ll give winding a tiny inductor a go. Also going to spring for one of those frames from SOSx, you can';t put a price on having a bit of flat space on which to mount stuff!

Seems like there is an increase in micro FPV activity since I started this thread, really hoping to see some reasonably priced/available brushless frames/motors soon

think i have caught the micro bug now i have finally got my nano qx fpv to fly decent, and after seeing a mini carbon H with CL-0820-17';s i want!

was thinking of this frame maybe with the top plate

http://www.rc-drones.com/Phoenix-Flight-Gear-135mm-Carbon-Fiber-Micro-H-Frame-8mm-Edition_p_982.html

would like a multiwii board of some sort, a more powerful vtx/camera unit, ach we shall see i';m not allowed to spend any more at the moment so plenty of time to research and plan things out.

I too was after an indoor fpv toy for the winter. I opted to go for the following:

SOS v2 Frame
Alienwii FC board
8.5mm Hubsan motor and props
600mah turnigy 1s
Spektrum Va1100 FPV camera / vtx

This thing flies great ! I am absolutely loving it!!
Still got a bit more PID tuning to do (never used multiwii before so a bit of a learning curve), but getting there!
Will try a post a few vids in the next couple of days

dirtyharry

ooh that looks nice.

I went for the same motors and props so good to hear they work well in another frame, what';s your all up weight?

i';m still waiting on my 32bit board from china  to put cleanflight on :-(

http://www.goodluckbuy.com/micro-quadcopter-flight-driver-controller-9dof-9-axis-altitude-sensor-stm32f103.html

r1zlah

AUW weight is about 60g, roughly 42g without battery (scales arent that accurate !) TBH i think the batteries i am currently using are a bit on the heavy side, i have ordered some 400mah and some 500mah to test as well. With the 600mah i am getting only about 4mins of flight time, was hoping to get a bit closer to 6mins. Overall still very happy with it though

DebianDave

Heh, I ended up with one of those frames too :)

56.7g AIW with a 500mah pack, so plenty of room for a bigger pack. Mine is just a Hubsan FC, generic 8.5mm cans, a TX5813 and one of these cams http://www.banggood.com/FPV-HD-Mini-Ultra-Light-3g-520-Line-Cable-Camera-for-RC-Model-p-951121.html

Loving the experience so far, can';t wait to get an AlienWii  and some MMW motors ::)

Using a Pololu regulator (3.3v Up/Down) and still have a little motor noise, so have ordered a couple of these

So my SOS frame is on the way. Got an Alienwii coming too and Lemon Rx. Will get a tx at the end of the month. FPV will come later.

For now I';ll use my Hubsan X4C as a donor.

Niiiice  ::) Look forward to your build thread. This thread was started to be more concerned with the FPV element of the micro arena, hope to post some more info when these FPVHobby regulators arrive, they are designed for FPV from the outset so should be good. Cheap as well at about £4.50 or so, but shipping bumps it up. So I ordered two lol

You have FS goggles already, right? Personally I don';t like the Spectrum/Horizon all in one solutions, but many people do. I already get better quality/range with my bodged DIY setup imo (aside from motor noise, which should be fixed soon) but many people rave about them

Be warned, the stock Hubsan motor wires are JUST shy of making contact with the Hubsan FC pads, you have extend at least 2 (or all of them if you want to preserve CoG). May I ask where you got the AlienWii? They are rarer than hens teeth

Put together a quick vid of some micro quad fpv action around the brewery i work at  :beer2: Was a great place to fly around, with loads of small places to explore. Unfortunately i had problems with my DVR so didnt get much footage. Ohh well, just means i will have to do some more over the weekend as the weather forecast looks like i wont be flying much outside!

I wasn';t actually planning on doing a build log but I may do now you suggest it.

I have Quanum goggles and a 32 Channel vtx which I was going to use. I';ve got  a TX5813 coming from BG. I like the all in one solution but prefer to make my own.

I have noticed about the wiring, I may just wait till my board comes and wire to that instead. My Wii board is coming from the guy who makes the SoS frame, but it doesn';t have the sockets for the motors so i can solder direct ::)

I can';t wait to fly manual on this thing!

Cool beans guys  :beer2: I have a DSM2 module new in the box for my radio, completely forgot I had it, which changes things a bit. I may try hit SOSx up for one but to be honest the socketed board does appeal a bit more, as MMW sell socketed motors and losing a pad is game over the AlienWii. Unless it has more that 4 motor outputs, but I count 4 FETs...

Forgot to add, the BG cam posted above runs absolutely fine on 3.3v, don';t know about now, since BG changed the listing. Its got a wideish FOV and the quality is great for something so small. Haven';t de cased it, might well wait until I have a second one before destroying, errr, dismantling it  :blink

Things have moved on somewhat, been flying this badboy at every opportunity and it is brilliant fun! Everywhere which is just a little too small for my 250 is suddenly a massive playground. Even then, it picks up speed really quick.

Video transmission is great, either I am a genius (unlikely) or got very lucky with this module and antenna. PERFECT reception, haven';t really seen any lines/breakup up to about a football field away with line of sight. Obviously obstacles do cause some interference. Really puts those Horizon mini cam/VTX things to shame, they look a crackly mess compared  :o

Next up:
New charger - Hobbytiger 6 x 1s charger
Even more 750mah Turnigy batteries
Lighten the frame. Try and bag an S.O.S.x Wasp 110

Will need to examine what is happening energy use wise. The AlienWii doesn';t handle low voltage very well. There doesn';t seem to be any loss of thrust right up until it dead ducks in the air. So far I have been flying to a 4 minute timer, but I know there';s more left in the batteries. Will measure how much goes back in and keep a record.

So far, I have enjoyed this project as much, if not more, than any multi I have built so far. Benedikt of Micro Motor Warehouse is right. Micros are addictive

I have a micro carbon-h sitting on my nightstand waiting on parts.  I lay awake staring at it.  When, oh WHEN will I be able to fly you, you little rascal!!?
