I just do not know where to turn anymore i have setup the Naze32 and it flies well and i can switch between rate and angle mode via the AUX1 switch and i have assigned the barometer (altitude hold) to the gear switch.

When i switch between rate and mode no problem with the AUX1 but when i flick the gear switch nothing, nada, no altitude hold or jack 5hit all it does is go up and down with the throttle and will not hold any altitude.

I have looked on Google but cannot find an answer.

atomiclama

What have you tried the ALT hold in?

It won';t work on acro/rate mode

Thank you for replying

I am in angle mode and i have just been outside to test it again in the wind (which has just blown over a wheelie bin) and the quad even though fighting the wind auto levels perfect but as far as altitude hold absolutely nothing.

I just don';t know what else to do, try or check and the PID settings are 5, 015, 0

i';m not sure how altitude hold works, buit think your throttle needs to be at 50% i could be wrong but might be worth a try

I will check that but on some videos I have seen quads with a Naze32 hovering great at about 10ft high in altitude hold but I think at half throttle my quad could be on its way up to the moon.  :o

i know thats how phantoms and naza stuff works anyway

Sweet Pickle

In  the same boat as you dave.
I sent up my new (re)build on Sunday and as you say it';s so pokey I can barely get the throttle past about 20% and it';s heading skyward like a missile. It also Jumps up and down like zebedee even with altitude engaged.
I';ve just slapped some "unbreakable"   :lipsrsealed props on that look a lot smaller than the Gemfans I have on, possible that these will make it a little less aggresive in the lift dept.

Hello Sweet Pickle

That';s interesting both of us having the same problem question is where do we go from here but othet than raising the PID settings I am out of ideas.

Did you see this?

He posted his PIDs in the video description.

I';m about to build a 300 sized quad with a full Naze (for GPS testing) and will also try the baro on that.  So I';ll be in the same boat as well...

Naze32 assist modes such as Alt Hold are "challenging" compared to other FC such as MultiWii, Naza M (Lite and V2), APM, Pixhawk etc...  Both Baseflight and Cleanflight take some considerable tweaking to get anywhere close to stable.  But by some accounts it can be done. It is worth trying out anything anyone has done to get theirs working, you';ll have to allow for differences between their build and yours.

And cover up the Baro with some dense, dark but breatheable foam. They don';t like light or air pressure waves as in propwash.  If you search the Interwebs you';ll find people have come up with various innovative ideas for protecting the Baro.

I';ll be honest it took me ages to figure it out but I can';t help feel that it';s a wasted flight mode.

It doesn';t feel locked in although it will hold its altitude roughly.

I';ve tried in both angle and horizon and they perform the same.

Use the throttle to get to the height you want and centre the stick. It should stay where it is, kind of...
If you knock it out to just angle it will blip in height before you start adjusting the stick.

Use foam packaging as suggested does the job.

One extra thing.. Although as a function its OK. I get more useful information from the barometer on my MinimOSD. It does display the altitude in ft or meters. Very handy if you struggle to gauge how far from the ground you are flying

I agree with you but the full Naze32 is a bit more future proof.
