VTX Power Output Comparison

Out of interest I have measured the power outputs of the various VTXs I have lying around.

This is by no means a scientific undertaking.  I used an inexpensive RF meter without means of calibration, so had to rely on it being set up properly by the manufacturer (ImmersionRC RF Power Meter).  They also did not supply information about the accuracy of the device.

I gave every VTX a few minutes to run up an operating temperature.  There was a significant difference in output power between a cold VTX and one that has been running for a while.  So I gave all of them five minutes before I started taking readings.

Output power by frequency

Output power over the whole spectrum
(the old Boscam was so rubbish the last four channels fell off the chart)

Inconsistency award goes to Aomway for getting two frequencies labelled wrong.  They also named the frequency bands A, B, C and D as opposed to A, B, E & F as Eachine and Skyzone did.  In addition to that Aomway';s bands A and B did not match the bands of the other two brands.  Because that was not inconsistent enough they also reversed the channels of one of the bands   What they lacked in this area they made up in performance though.

Edit: Added Fatshark 250 mW v3 measurements.

Labelling and assignments aside, I';m loving the quality of the Aomway in terms of power. Your chart shows the best consistency from that little FC compared to the others.  Thats significant. ~~

i';ve just gone back on to 5.8 after being on 1.2 for some time, got the aomway 250mw i have to say i think i';m getting better picture and range than i was on my 600mw immersion vtx. whether my wiring has improved or my memory is just wrong, i don';t know. very happy with it anyway, not great penetration but good range and should be plenty for miniquad racing

Yeah, penetration on 5.8GHz is always going to be something of an issue.  The key there is to up the game at the RX end with a diversity rig of some sorts and a Helical. Those things pull in the merest whiff of RF signal.

I knew there was something fishy about a couple of frequencies on the aomway. I';ve got an aomway rx and was trying to tune it in the other day. Is it in band A by any chance where the frequencies are mixed up?

Their band A is the Fatshark/ImmersionRC band.  Incidentally, channel 7 and 8 in this band have the same frequency according to their "manual", hence the gap in the graph.  I don';t know if that';s a typo or not, so left it at that.  Technically that makes it a 31 channel VTX.  ;)  The other VTXs have an additional 5880 MHz frequency in that band which is not FS/IRC compatible.

They have reversed the channels in their band B.
