Hi Guys,
I am an old school electronics engineer, raised on a diet of valves and germanium transisters etc  ;D I am 60 years young and always maintained a passion for electronics and rc flying (having been through fixed wings, coaxial helis and 450 class helis) but a total noob at quads.
My quad just arrived from our fine Chinese bretheren c/w crius aio fc and crius gps and loaded with megapirate software.
Now, my question is: has anyone attempted or achieved to emulate the IOC function that the naza fc offers ?
If not, could it be done ?

I would really appreciate some feedback as personally, I feel that the IOC function would be of great benefit to all noobs out there - including myself  ~~

There are two IOC modes on the Naza , "Home Lock" and "Course lock".

The Crius with MegaPirateNG installed can do "Simple Mode" or "Super Simple Mode"  which is the same as "Course Lock"  and "Home Lock" on the Naza.

The Crius with MPNG has a lot more flight modes that the Naza M.

Quote
Simple Mode

  • Simple mode is similar to the "care free" mode on other multicopters.

    •
    • Simple mode allows you to "fly the compass, not the copter".
    • Simple mode is the easiest way to fly!
    • You don';t need to worry about the orientation of the aircraft, you just fly according to your launch position. So if you start with the copter facing North, North is always "forward" in your RC stick position.
    • Simple mode is an additional modifier for the other flight modes of Arducopter and is used in conjunction with them.
    • Simple Mode is specified by checking the Simple Mode box next to the flight mode it is wished to modify in the Flight Modes section of the Configuration tab of the Mission Planner.
Super Simple Mode

  • A twist on Simple mode, Super Simple mode uses your home position as the reference for forward.

    •
    • If you fly > 10m away, the copter will constantly recalculate it';s orientation so that:

      •
      • Pitch forward moves the copter away from you
      • Pitch back moves the copter towards you
      • Roll Left causes the copter to orbit counter clockwise around you towards the left.
      • Roll Right causes the copter to orbit clockwise around you towards the right.
      • The Yaw control stick will cause the copter to rotate, but its heading does NOT affect direction the copter will go when Pitch or Roll control is used. (Roll and Pitch motion is relative to the GPS home position determined at take off not relative to copter heading).
      • The Throttle control stick controls altitude as is normal for whichever mode is selected as being under Super Simple mode control.
    • This makes for very intuitive flying and removes the need to worry about the original orientation.
    • Inside the 10m circle, the most recent orientation is kept.
  • In order to successfully use Super Simple mode:

    •
    • You must use the GPS and you must set home by achieving GPS lock (GPS blue LED and APM blue LED on solid not blinking) before arming and takeoff.
    • If you fly around and achieve lock in the air, this will be your new home location.
    • Flying 10m from this location will suddenly reorient the copter.
    • To avoid this issue wait till you have GPS lock (GPS blue LED and APM blue LED on solid not blinking)before arming and flying when you are going to use Super Simple mode.
  • Super Simple mode is enabled by setting the parameter named SUPER_SIMPLE to 1 (0 = disabled = default) in the Parameter List in the Mission Planner';s Configuration section.

    •
    • When SUPER_SIMPLE is enabled all modes selected as Simple will be in fact Super Simple.
    • Really Super Simple right!

Afraid I can';t answer your actual question, but as a Naza owner, I can safely say, if you can fly a plank or 450 size heli, I doubt you';ll actually find a use for IOC mode.

I guess the question is, does the crius stuff have a magnetometer, as it';s this part of naza that performs IOC.

If it doesn';t I suspect the answer will be obviously no it can';t.

Hope this helps and welcome along to the forum :)

Edit: Knew someone would be along with a decent answer :)

Thanks so much for the info, I will now dig deeper into documentation and figure out how to set these modes up :)
