ok so these ickle buggers are actually quite fun straight out the box and cheap to boot, as seen by the growing threads their also growing in popularity too.


mine arrived yesterday and Ive been chucking it round since, now 24hrs has past which means........... time to start modding it


first thing first, with anything this small its always comes back to weight, if you can shed weight anywhere (even half a gram) it';ll be beneficial.

original stock weight without battery = 19g

so off comes the canopy straight away, thats about half a gram so where at 18.5g

result - hmmmm nothin much really, atleast nothing really notable.

ok lets stick on a chunkier higher C rating battery than stock




result - weight back upto just over 19g without canopy still, power is a minor bit more punchy but nothing exciting, flight time is up though so theres that atleast.

ok so we';ve tried the quick easy mods, time for something a little more fundememntal, quick session on my pc and I come up with this minilimistic type replacement frame design.


kick the 3d printer on this morning a flash out a quick print in PLA (might try ABS or PetG after seeing how the PLA fairs)


now carefully strip out the motors and fc from the stock frame (could of de-soldered the motors but why add the work when a couple of minor cut to the stock frame will release them without destroying the frame or wiring.


quick frame comparison before I re-install the electronics in the minimal frame I just printed.


thats enough faffing about, lets get it in and going again (I actually did a giddy hand rub at this point )
so.... about 15 mins later...


result -

Stock frame without battery =19g
minimalistic frame without battery =just touching 17g
stock motors and battery cope alot better and are notably more punchy.
most noticeable is the sudden drop in noise, without the all-round ducts this things become almost silent (which should lessen the missus scowls)

Im genuinely quite pleased with that 2g weight loss ,

next....

motors - racestar 615';s I think they are, have to get em ordered pronto

then...

fc - beecore f3 evo which "should" give the whole thing more whoop like thrills

then a tx03 AIO fpv cam for some goggles giggles around the house

Nice! I';ve got a set of Racestar 615s on the way along with some 45C lipos. :)
Looking forward to seeing how well it works with the new motors. It';s been fun flying FPV circuits around the house but the camera weight is just that bit too much for the smaller motors to recover after sharp moves and it plummets to the ground.

higher c rating batteries certianly help with the sudden turn drops, even the additional 5c on the larger hubsan batteries I tried helped.

Ive got a set of eachine 150mah 45c';s on order already which should give me stock battery weight and size with the added c rating so even on stock motors it should improve.

bit of tinkering and managed to shave off another gram of weight and improved frame rigidity with it.

V.2 is the red';un


result - now a distinct increase in punch out even with stock motors and battery, rolls are alot more sharper and doesnt drop height on sharp turning as easy either.

thats 3grams (now weighs in at 16g frame/electronics) better than stock frame so that would atleast offset the weight of the lightest AIO fpv cam on banggood without upgrading motors,battery or fc.
