After my last attempt of building my own multi went surprisingly well, I think it is time for something silly.

I have always fancied the idea of Y6, redundancy, extra power with not so much extra weight and I';ve heard good things about them in the wind. So why not.

First motors, easy, seen a few recommendations for them and general good comments so why not.
http://www.banggood.com/Wholesale-SunnySky-X2212-KV1400-Brushless-Motor-For-RC-Models-p-60577.html

Now I have heard a lot about the inefficiency of the coaxial set-up but wanted to find out for my self the numbers.
Also what the motors will pull with the HQ8x4.5 props I had lying around.

Problem is I only have one spare ESC oh well lets see what one motor can do.

First test, just see what the motors pull, I';ll redo the rig with some scales to get the thrust later.
Luckily the lab at work has 2x 50A stabilised power supplies  ::)

Full whack 30A @12.6V 378W  :o That';s abit more than from the table.

Now to start ordering the rest of the parts.  ::)

Looks like that';s part of the ';vice quad';!

Soz, couldn';t resist.

Told you those motors were good, it';s going to go like a rocket!!!

barneyg

Apparently Sunnysky rate their motors with seriously flexible props ... it results in a very low current draw, if you use an even vaguely stiff prop the current draw will sky rocket.

guest325

Yes,  I';ve noticed that,  one reason why I always use 30A esc';s with them.

Yeah hardly any vibration straight from the box aswell.

I tried holding onto the arm, got to about 1/2 power before I bottled it and found the vice.
Could be a hand full. But fun I hope.

What size props are you using,  I would recommend 8*4.5/4.7 should fly very nicely, my tricopter on that setup at an all up weight of just over a kg was ballistic;  yours with 2*motors but more weight should be very entertaining!  You will need about 5000mah to get decent flight times but you can get away with 25C I think.
Zippy compacts are the best power to weight ratio I';ve found - thinking about it if you';ve got 3S2200';s you could parallel them up to try it out.

atomiclama

I';ll start with HQ8x4.5 as I already have a few of them in my box of bits and take it from there.

Battery wise  :hmm: seeing as though I';ll need ~180A @ full power I was thinking of paralleling up my 1400 40/80C lipos, won';t last long but don';t think I';ll be able to handle it for long.

Need to trickle the kit in under the radar. Bigger lipos in the future.

really need to spend some time on this.

I have 4 motors and 3 ESC sitting in my draw.

What I plan on doing is: -

Knock up a test rig to see what thrust, current draw and efficiency I';m going to get from the setup.

Find what ratio I need to run the upper and lower motors at to even the load. I can then modify cleanflight mixer to match.

Compare BlHeli, SinmonK and WiiESC all with active braking enabled.

If I get through all that I might get round to putting into the planned Y6

Ynot6

my part built Y6 has emax 2213 motors with 1045 props.
440 Y6 with vector, F330 quad with naza, hammer 240 with flip32, and watch this space.
