Which configuration DIY build?

I';m a dab at DIY, and found an old aluminium T bar (window frame!) in the cave alongside some check-plate. current Ally weight 700g ( lots to be cut up/Out) so im guessing <250g. What do i build? Or should i say what is the difference in flying characteristics in X H + etc?  I have a X so would like to try something different. All will be pot riveted together along with N&B as necessary.

Ideas please.

In my limited understanding - and having just successfully built and flown an H after having already built an X  ... they are the same 

There are 4 motors in 4 corners and the flight controller doesn';t know, or care, how they are bolted together/connected 

So if you look at an X - then and H either horizontal or vertical there are still 4 motors in 4 corners 

As I see it the differences only come when you go to say a crucifix layout where there is a ';leading'; motor - a ';trailing'; motor and left and right motors

I may be wrong but I told my Naza that my H was an X and it flies fine

I';m not sure what to suggest, but I';ve always thought that a well made ';test bed'; type frame would be a good idea, maybe with a preconfigured cheap FC like naze or something, for testing esc';s & motors etc.
You could machine some slots for variable motor fixings etc.  Might come in handy for test purposes?

Go for a tricopter (T shape), once tried you will love it! The flight characteristics are very similar to a plane - I can recommend that you use an mg16r servo for the tail, ask JT - very reliable and not too expensive (HK do them), go for David Widenstall';s yaw design,  it';s easy to build and very reliable.

I was thinking about a Y copter. can I buy a yaw mechanism?

Not every H had equally spaced motors,  some are considerably narrower and behave a bit differently.

Vtails with a motor in each of 4 corners are different again.

Possibly saying try them all is an evil thing to do
