Only been flying quads and wondering does a hexacopter add some safety with a thrown prop or do you need to go to octo to get that

flybywire

Simple answer is yes it does, but of course an octo will do it better!

Depends on how the prop fails, if it flies off, yes it can, if the motor stops, yes it can, but if the prop breaks in half and one half is left spinning, the vibrations will upset the FC enough to down the copter.

Why use 4 motors when you can use 6?

Had a smile to myself. I can barely keep it in the air with a full quota never mind down one.

There are a few variables.. not all FC';s support motor loss...

On DJI.. I can confirm personally it works..

Depending on payload.. the aircraft will rotate to main stability.. if you need to control heading rather than just landing then you need to turn course lock on to enable you to bring it back..

Also confirm works on Y6 with Naza..

The rear prop snapped but one half was left on the motor spinning, causing lots of vibration, I had to land it before it crashed.

Well, hit the wall hard today and lost 3... I can 100% confirm it does not stay in the air with 1. Naza or no Naza it went South..... Very fast.
