Balancing Prop Hubs???

Anybody any bright ideas for balancing prop hubs, I';ve tried filing down the heavy side although with Carbon Fibre props the dust us potentially really bad for you.
I';ve also tried adding a little CA to the light side, kicker, test again more CA - kicker etc etc .... it just seems to hit or miss and half the time as you tend to have side you#re applying the glue to facing up, half of it runs down the side of the prop to the bottom and it just seems so laborious.

If anyone has any tips or tricks / simpler solutions would be appreciated.

I don';t have any thick CA but I do have hot glue so I';ll def give that a go !!!

I used to do the hubs when I started out balancing, ended up with dirty great globules of hot glue on the hubs, looked horrible.  Then did some work with APM flight controller, taking IMU logs and examining them for the results. And I found that as long as the prop blades were correctly balanced, bringing the vibration levels [very] well within the Arducopter requirements, the actual benefits of balancing the hubs were minimal and, in Arducopter terms, not worthwhile.

So these days I';m left wondering if there really is that much point in working on the hubs - as long as they are not so dreadful as to cause massive imbalances outside of the "acceptable" limit points.

Out of balance hubs cause lots of vibes, who cares what it looks like, good balance=low vibes=good flying=good footage, some of my props almost have a third hot glue blade

Mine looked like they';d got a nasty disease

Given that the vibes were within Arducopter limits I couldn';t see the point of going further.  When I did the effects were not very evident in the IMU log charts.

Of course, I should acknowledge that vibration = stress and stress = ultimate failure.  So I guess my kit is liable to fail  :blink before that which has all (??) vibration eliminated at source.  It all about risk I suppose  :crossfingers:

I tried the hot glue this evening, they';re gemfan 12 x 4.5';s, it git to the stage "the growh" on their side is so huge and they';re not even close I';ve just decided I';m going to send them back as not fit for purpose,.
I';m completely fed up with companies in this industry sending out complete junk and if everybody did the same they have a choice of up their game or go bust !! I really don';t care which it is but if they take my money I expect something "Reasonable" in return.
Sorry but if it';s a turd it doesn';t matter how much you polish it it';s still a turd !!!

EDIT: If anyone can recommend where I can buy some hald decent 12 x 4.5';s or 13 x 4';s probably carbon reinforced at this stage or anything else that';s half decent for a 680 with E-max 3510';s would be appreciated :-)

I tried gemfans carbon re-enforced 11" props after getting recommended them and they were utter sh1te. But there cheapo 5x3 ones are excellent on my mini quad ( better than HQ ones any day)

I have found that if you have to balance the prop hubs its just too much pissing about and I usually end up binning them, there never as good as a set that only need blade balancing.

The only prop i';ve used that';s always good is APC slow fly ,very efficient and balanced from the packet ,  but they do break easy .

I';d recommend giving those sold by @philtrum a try out.

Cheers for those responses, the Hex came with a set of Carbon Fibre';s, someone had said to me if you send it up 1st flight and catch the ground you won';t be a happy bunny because of the cost and I';d seen a couple of other posts saying proper Carbon Fibre create a bit too much vibration for video and you want a smidge more flex  ie a mix BUT.
I';d spent hours trying to balance the other ones, the ones that came with it didn';t take me 1/2 hour to do all of them.
Most wanted a tad of tape on one blade or the other and 2 out of the 6 wanted literally a smidge of hot glue, I probably could of got away with no glue on those 2 but it';ll be a video platform so I';d like to get rid of any cause vibration / jello cause I can a this stage.
I should also mention I balanced all the motors but it was a complete waste of time ....... they didn';t need balancing  ::) Seriously one had a smidge of tape that improved it to such a marginal degree it almost wasn';t worth doing and the others was just me moving tape around to find it created more vibration and taking it off again ..... very impressed !!

Theflyingfreak

How do people balance the hubs on direct mount props, there';s not really enough space on the side to use hot glue and when I did try there';s so little for it to "attach" to it came off very easily, is my only alternative with these to dig out the dremel??

nub

i don';t even bother about the hubs anymore, i';ve had quite few sets the hubs were well off even after trimming away some material and adding epoxy they were still off, it was a waste of time from what i remember of the improvement i gained.

if they';re off a bit i doubt it';ll make that much difference with it being pretty much in the center?
