ControlThis

Hi guys,

Can anyone recommend a decent gimbal for a Sony Nex camera which is not stupidly priced? If so could you please supply a link to the relevant site?

Thanks

I bought this one of Craig:

I';ll try to dig a link to the site it originated from unless Craig beats me to it.

Hey thanks so much for that link it looks amazing. Have you got one yourself? What are they like when flying at speed? Can I get the HDMI Converter and IR red trigger for shutter from the same site?

Hi Jumpy,
Any chance of a link or pics of these items; I am having no joy finding them (or don';t know what I am looking for.......)

Do you have any pics of your set up posted anywhere please?
Cheers
Andy

Next basic question!
I looked at the link to the IR trigger and HDMI converter but do not understand what connects to what; any photos or diagrams that might help please?

Cheers
Andy

Sorry dont want to be off hand.. but your asking a pretty basic question, which worries me..as you will really struggle with the gimbal controller.. if this is the case you might be better to buy a turn key solutions.. ie: Zenmuse Gimbal.

The HDMI and IR trigger.. the video output connects to your video transmitter.. and the IR trigger part connects to your control receiver..

Same as this.. (but nex is full sized HDMI plug)

Gimbal wiring for reference..

Hi Craig,
Not taken as offhand!  Its that level of thought and considered advice that makes this forum so good!!

Apologies for any confusion; I';m not a complete noob, but just cannot get my head around how this is set up, and thought it may be of use to others if I kept this open, rather than PM.

I understand the video output and IR trigger to receiver; the bit I am/was confused about are the camera connections, but it looks like the board plugs directly into the side of the camera (I thought I needed an additional HDMI out lead to connect the board and the camera).

In one of the pics on the Goodluckbuy link, it shows some form of clear plastic tube (fibre optic?) that I guess is used to get an infrared signal to the receiver on the front of the camera.  I don';t understand where it fits on the board, and what goes on the camera end of it, and where on the board the signal comes from.  I see on a pic of your old gimbal with the Nex 5n that there is some form of bulb mounted in front of the IR receiver on the front of the camera, but I don';t see anything similar in the GLB link.

As always, thank you for your time and help.

Kind regards
Andy

No issues Andy.. was just worried you might be biting off more than you can handle..

Wiring up the gimbal is quite complicated so just wanted to make sure you knew what you were getting yourself into..

Lots of people of here to help if you get stuck, that';s what the forum is for..

Thank you.

I may well be biting off a big chunk, but small nibbles a bit at a time will get it done!

Happy with the gimbal wiring; just not yet understanding the IR trigger bit......I understand I can trigger via my transmitter; the bit I don';t get is where does the IR pulse come from on the board that the IR receiver in the front of the camera ';sees'; in order to make the camera take the shot?  What goes in front of the camera IR receiver to deliver this pulse?

I am used to using CHDK and SDM software in my Ixus, or Gentles IR triggers, which come pre setup, and that is why I reckon I am struggling to get my head around this piece of kit.

Its also an expensive camera and I don';t want to booger it!!

Cheers
Andy

You won';t damage the camera..

There will be an IR led that you stick on the front of the camera.. normally for the Nex.. you set a switch on your TX for start stop video.. and another switch for triggering shutter for still images.  You set your TX up for different PWM values on the channel on the RX the IR trigger is connected to..

Hi again,
I got the adaptor from GLB, installed the IR clear plastic pipe, cut it to length and taped it to the front of the A 6000.

Installed the camera and balanced the gimbal with the camera lense extended, and it all works great!!

I got channel 6 on my TX set to start the camera taking photos every 4 seconds or so when I flick the switch. Flick the switch off, the camera stops taking pics.

I need to figure out how to set this up to turn on video recoding, but that is not urgent.

I am looking for any pics of gimbals already set up so I can try and figure out how to tidy up the cables etc, and where to mount the RX and battery etc.

I will get some pics up over Christmas.

Cheers
Andy
