you flip or roll with a brushless motor gimbal?

i know nothing about them and was just wondering how it would react, would it reach a certain angle then follow u round, try to compensate the whole flip and get things twisted or would it just freak out?

thx.

my guess is it`d freak, its not meant for stunt but for stable recording.

Pass, I think it would do its fruits!

Jimbodiddly

It would go a bit pete tong methings, somewhat like if you buttered a cats feet and pushed it out the window lmao!

nub

hmmm sounds like it wouldn';t work out to well then

TBH I think from what I know of you and your enjoyment of flying I think a gimbal may interfere with your enjoyment; if you want to branch out into the more serious stuff then you need to forget the acro stuff - I don';t think the two mix that well.

nub

aye i know what u mean, it would have been nice to mix the 2 though, i really like the level, stable, smooth footage u get from a gimbal.

It';s one of the reasons why I don';t really do videos, I like hooning around too much and have a job finding anyone to video my flights.
I don';t really take to self videos because I know I';m cr4p at it - sometimes I feel a bit guilty not posting videos but I just hope people understand why.

nub

and so u should, we';re all cr4p at it compared to some get something posted lol ;)

This sounds like an easy test to try safely? Just grab a gimbal and rotate it fully around one axis by hand.

nub

good thinking batman, maybe someone could give it a go?

though i do take no responsibility if it does go mad and it slips out your hand and drops on the floor ;)

Mine gets to a certain angle of somewhere around 45 degrees then stutters and tries to find level again. In a way it does kind of act like it';s having a freak out but I think it';s just some kind of programming loop continuously checking to see if the level has returned to normal ranges. Never had it happen in flight but I wouldn';t be at 45 degree angles with a gimbal on!

nub

thx, i suppose its going to be down to the programming of the controller and what its been told to do in that situation hmmm

45 degrees, is that the usual kind of travel range a gimbal has?

Have you thought of popping a small lightweight camera on a peaked cap, like  a baseball cap or similar?  I';ve seen several RC fliers do that on YouTube and it works reasonably well with a wide angle lens.  I';m thinking something like one of those #16 Keychain Cameras or similar.

Programming wise, mine seems to be around that mark. A Kk2.0 board in self levelling mode won';t go past that, so I suspect it may be a standard choice. Other boards may just go till the wires go tight... who knows!

Feiyu Tech G3 gimbal rotates, has a little spaz then stops at facing straight up....I just tested it on my quad in dinette by rotating quad through a backflip  ~~

I wonder how many times he can flip in one direction before the gimbal cabling runs out of play

nub

 cool video, hmmm not really much point i suppose if the camera doesn';t follow throw.

I think that if you want to record fast dynamic stunt flying then a fixed camera works best. It gives more of a ';roller coaster'; kind of effect when you watch it back where every movement of the aircraft is recorded giving you the best sense of what';s going on.

Brushless gimbals are designed to cancel all of that out and divorce the camera from the movements of the aircraft.

Getting a brushless gimbal to follow the aircraft around some maneuvers whilst cancelling out others sounds like it would take some fancy programming and setup. I am not sure how you';d want it to work - cancel out pitch and roll until you roll more than a certain amount, then follow the aircraft round precisely until it gets to a certain number of degrees of horizontal before it starts acting like a gimbal again? That would look very odd to watch back afterwards as you';d have the magic floating camera effect most of the time and occasionally it would spin round for no obvious reason
One circlip short of a quadcopter.
1 lobe short of an antenna.

nub

yup you';d have to have a sit down and have good think about how u want it to work/react, the programming shouldn';t be that fancy i wouldn';t have thought but knowing how to program it would be

ach was just something i was thinking about
