Hi I saw a f330 with black arms and have looked everywhere to buy some but not found anything so ive seen from my large scale car days people dye plastic wheels and parts so thats the only way I can see to do it has anyone done it and how

Biffa

You can dye some nylon products with rid dye (clothes dye) not sure if it works with quad copter arms though :hmm:
Steve

I have two spare arms so Im going to give it ago ill report back

doofer

This guy shows you how to dye nylon parts, can';t see the arms being any different, just use a bigger pot or a frying-pan....

I think all the 330, 450 & 500 arms are the same, maybe I';m wrong.
If I';m right you could buy these.

The F330 arms are smaller, not just shorter. They also only have three screw mounts on the top as opposed to 4 on the bigger arms.

I have been looking for black arms myself, without success. Looking forward to James'; results dyeing them.

Are the 450 and 550 arms different as well?

AFAIK the DJI style 450 and 550 arms are the same it';s the 550 plates that increase the over all size.

I think spray paint would be easier than dye - multi arms are usually injection molded ABS and aren';t easy to dye like nylon
TBS Discovery + ghetto printed gimbal, HovershipMHQ 1 & 2, QAV250, Turnigy Talon V2, chinese Alien500 thingie, 3d Printed Tricopter, Bix 3, Flyingwings.co.uk FalconEVO, Venturi EVO 1+2, Hornet Racing Wing, Radjet800 (by the dozen)... Permanent sucker for FPV, and lots and lots of OpenLR

james111

I think paint would just flake ive looked in to ot and rit dye seems to be the go to stuff I can order it and risk the wait with post at the minute (already waiting on my osd that was sent first class on 16th) or buy other hand wash dye localy tommorow and try that what you think

You often see them sold as F450/F550 arms, like here.

The DJI arms are PA66+30GF which is polyamide 6.6 with 30% glass fill (polyamide = Nylon) so you';re all good for dying

Ah man, looks like the disco is going even more stealth black now...

Will be great to see how you guys get on with this, seems pretty straightforward process. Wont be using the good non-stick pans for it though!
I reverse polarities for fun.

james111

The results are in I bought dylon fabric dye locally to try I have also ordered rit dye as we know it works the best but results speak for them selves I only tryed 2 arms for now hear they are

james111

They have a slight green tint so I have left them in and will see what they look like in the morning they can only get darker

Im pleased with it now we all know you can dye arms

Calomile

Looks great to me. I';m guessing you';re waiting on the rit dye to arrive to do the other arm? Will be great to see a comparison between the two as far as results, on the video where he uses rit dye all the finished parts look 100% black.

In the video earlier in the thread he mentions only leaving them in for up to an hour - perhaps there';s a reason you';re not supposed to leave them in too long? Perhaps it degrades the strength of the material?

My quad is currently in stealth mode, however I';m now considering dying some arms to get something more wasp like
Not much kit, but what I have I like

I ordered some Rit dye, too.

FYI, I have emailed DJI and they said they don';t make black arms for the F330. So if you see black arms they';re either dye-jobs or 3rd-party.

That';s awesome! I got my Rit dye as well today, but haven';t had a chance to use it yet.

The screw holes of the top right and bottom arms seem to have some colouring to them. Are those the ones you did the first time round?
