Well I';m gonna do it as soon as my cheque clears.
That will be just after Xmas.
Should get it  (*) before 2014.

It isn';t the cheapest build.
But it looks like its a very good build.

So I am now reading all the hex copter stuff I can find.
And of course everything arducopter.

Does anyone on hear have a Peter King build?

Roll of Xmas.
My Hex is only a week away but the wait is going to be painful.

Have a good one guys.

550 frame built and tested
APM2.5 GPS Hex calibrated
3S 5000mAh Lipo
Turnigy 9x 8 channel transmitter configured
Tall landing skid set
Battery alarm (red flashing LED';s and loud siren when battery is low)

I don';t have a PK build but I have bought some bits and bobs off him in the past and used his own settings when I was using a Crius AIO board.

No complaints from me and you will be hard pushed to find them from anyone else.

Hi dyls,
I bought my first quad off Peter King with the AIO Megapirate board on it, after spending some time with me on my PC helping me to set up my Tx for the quad I had a great time flying it. Since then he has made a lot of tutorial videos on You Tube which I find very helpful, Peter is a very helpful guy and he will make sure you get the help if you need it.
Since then I have built 3 more quads and with the advice and help from members of this forum, I am now enjoying flying the quads even more.
Regards,
Rammy

My 450 Bitza started out as a PK 450 flamewheel clone, I have nothing but good to say about it. I have done a few mod';s since I had it (mainly due to oops'; s) and have moved the fc (Crius AIOP v1.1) from the middle to the top and moved the battery from the top to the bottom oh and changed the firmware to 2.9 addons. It';s now got a mixture of arms between dji, rctimer and tarrot - that';s why I call it Bitza!
It flies extremely well despite my attempts to wreck it and is still going ok on the original rctimer motors (they are getting a bit noisy now and are scheduled to be replaced with sunnysky ones in the new year. When all is said and done you can';t go wrong if you don';t want to risk building it yourself,  you will definitely not be disappointed!

I was thinking of building a dji 550 using naza v2 with gps.
Buying a devo 10 TX.
But naaar.

I';m going this route to cut out my inexperience of the whole flying thing as well as setting up multicopters FC';s. Then on top of that trying to get my head around the new TX.

I built my x525 using a KK2.
I have it flying.
That was a basically a pain in the arse I could have done without.
The PID';s are the real pain.

Anyway this way Peter tests/fly';s it, then takes the props off.
I get it and put the props on and fly.

Nubs- As for building it.
Soldering ain';t no fun for me.
My finished jobs work and look pretty tidy, I just don';t enjoy it to much.
I find it stressfull during building but feel a great sense of relief when its finished.

Biffa- He seems like a guy who just wants everyone else to share in the JOY.
What FC do you use now?

Rammy- I have watched all his youtube vids. great stuff.
I still reading everyone experiences of APM on here (this forum).

DarrellW- I';ve been on here for a little while and the APM + 550 seemed impressive. Peter seems equally impressive it his building and setting up. I want it done the same way FC on the top and the battery at the bottom. Its coming with the extra large landing gear.
I do expect to have to do the same, fix bits as I go along. But at least I know what is capable from the start unlike when I set up my X525. I expected a more locked-in quad on a KK2. It flying OK maybe someone else could do better, in fact I';m sure someone could do a shed load better but not me.. not now.

Nice to know of some other P.King customers

Anyone else used the waypoint part of the the APM?
Probably going to read about some now over at that part of the forum.
Cheers Guys

To get the KK2 to work well really you need 1.6++ firmware,  my home brew VTail runs that combination, OK it';s nowhere near as stable as the Crius but its more interesting to fly.
If you want stability then the APM or Naza is the best route, the Crius is still a very good FC but has its limitations - as I said before you will definitely not be disappointed with PK';s handiwork!

Hands0n

@dyls - I have used the waypoint mission feature on the APM 2.5.  It was a bit nerve-wracking at first, but after the first "mission" the confidence is gained quickly.  A properly set up and [probably more importantly] properly started up APM on the day will fly these missions quite reliably.

By "started up" I mean leaving the aircraft on the ground for a full 3 minutes when first powered up, resisting the urge to fly off immediately.  These missions rely utterly on the GPS being fully initialised and locked in to as many satellites it can see.  Otherwise you may experience the dreaded fly-away.

I have a Naza on my FPV rig and a KK2 on my v-tail acro quad and have another KK2 going on a mini FPV build.

And yes he seems to love to share. It is cool to come across someone who gives up detailed set up filed etc available for everyone to use.

Thanks guys for your support.

I will leave it for the three minutes before take off, good tip thanks.
And make sure I have the two solid lights indicating solid GPS flying.
Better to be safe than REALLY sorry.

I have ordered 2 5000mah batteries.
I have lots of 2200mah batteries and a parallel lead so maybe I have enough batteries, but can you really ever have enough.!?

I';m not getting rid of my X525 quad with the KK2 board.
I flashed it to 1.6 not 1.6++, is 1.6++ safe to use now (no bugs) ?
But I will only fly that on very calm days.
Or maybe I won';t as I';ll be to busy mastering the Hex.

As for stability Naza does seem good but APM got my pound.
Because of the extras like the waypoints and of course price.

Three long days to wait.

Cheers Dyl

1.6++ is fine, it also makes it easier to calibrate the esc';s - no transmitter required! Have a look here:

Well if your Pete King 550  is as well set up as my 450 was then you are going to have a lot of fun with it

aye true build';s can be a little stressful but once its done its great sense of achievement.

also helps u learn your way around your quad, say if u crash for example you';d find it a little easier when it came to repairing it.

but either way hope u enjoy

I little stressful, not me I turn into a right monster.
But I';m with you on the sense of achievement.

DarrellW- 1.6 has the push button 1&4 calibration do-dar on power up.
And it did seem to work for me.
Has 1.6++ got more tweaks then?
No transmitter I';ll have to have a look now to see how that works, ta.

Cheers kilby I';m sure it will.
Christmas is for my kids but after boxing day its my turn for fun fun fun.
