F450 Setup advice please

I mounted the Zenmuse H3-2D and the GoPro cam to the F450.  Went to a local country park to test fly for the first time with the camera. Very windy! Guess 20~30mph+ I nearly didn';t risk flying... But what the hell, I was too keen to give it a try!

The 3 minute video is raw unprocessed other than editing out some of the garbage & killing the audio. DJI F450 quadcopter + GoPro -First Flight Test at Ham Hill, Somerset - h264-vimeo720-2 on Vimeo  - Ignore the jerky side movements from time to time - that is the gusting wind!

At the moment I have difficulty in smooth, slow flying, especially slow rotation. A small movement on the stick gives a large movement on the aircraft.

Is this a setting on the ';End Points'; or should I be fiddling with the gain?

Likewise the VR (a potentiometer on the Futaba T8J) default gives the Camera pointing horizontal at the mid point setting, I would like to have the camera horizontal at the full clockwise position and the camera pointing down at the full anti-clockwise position... At the moment, again a very small movement on the VR knob gives too much camera rotation. I have tried ';fiddling'; with the endpoints but without success.

All settings are at their default

I don';t know about the Zenmuse, but will do soon as I build my F550. I have the aeroxcraft on my phantom.

But I do have the T8J.

I have chnaged settings that will slow down the yaw, the ';a name for forward and back'; and the ';a name for right and left strafing';.

All three of these will change to slow movement at the click of one switch on the controller. Much better when filming and you can adjust that setting to whatever percentage of the original speed you wish. Then when you wanna come home... Whack it back to fast.

Not sure if this is what you are talking about, but happy to dig out how it was done if it is indeed what you need.
I may be dumb, but my learning curve is high...

For someone who has only just started this game I think you are doing remarkably well, very nice control in windy conditions.
That one sheep at the end looks lame poor thing!

Liking that alot Donald ! great to see it all coming together!

Look at the setting called ';expo'; on your transmitter to help with this problem, not the end points. It changes the stick movement from linear to a curve that is less sensitive around the midpoint. I believe on Futaba you set minus (-) values to make it less sensitive around the center point. Probably best to set expo for both pitch and roll but not for yaw or throttle. Yaw is pretty insensitive but try it there and see if it helps. You don';t want too mess with the throttle. You can assign the expo to a switch to turn it on and off and you can assign both to the same switch. A good starting point might be between -20 and -35%

Hope this helps,

Jim

agree with kk1w expo will sort your rotation issue out, making your yaw less responsive closser to mid stick position, i think 30% would do the trick

+ another one for expo, not long ago I set up my home made VTail on a KK2 controller, I never bothered with expo on anything other than my 3D foamy plane (it';s scary without! ) but found it very helpful with sorting out my clumsy inputs - that FC is very responsive compared to my Crius AIOP!

Hi donald ... Nice bit of film and a lovely location ,maybe we can meet up one day there as i would love to do some filming of that stone circle !!!! A casing point though and one i have noticed with a lot of films where people are vastly over estimating wind speeds, i am not picking fault in any way here only pointing out that most people over estimate wind speeds by quite a high percentage. I carry a small annomometer with me at all times and a 25mph wind is right on limits even for the very largest and most powerful multi rotors, i have a 1000mm quad sprting some big ol motors with 15" props and i would be very very cautious about flying in anything above 20mph. I have flown fixed wing aircraft for 25 years and no only to well how sporting a 25mph wind can be. The annomometer i use can be bought off ebay for about £8 and is an invaluable thing to take with you when flying. Once again nice film donald.

Best regards rob

Thank you all for your responses and for the compliments! <blush!>

Sorry I didn';t reply properly yesterday, I had a call out!

I will try the tweaking that has been suggested. I am most grateful for the pointers. Thanks
Donald

A lovely bit of video and an awesome location.  The stability of the 450 is very apparent. Looks like a superb set up there.

I watched the vid in full HD on the Vimeo site - it came out great.  ~~

Thanks Danny - I am very pleased with the setup. Still needs tweaking & my other brain cell needs to kick in a bit harder and get the feel of the sticks.

The location of the Video is Ham Hill Country Park, 4 miles NW of Yeovil - Its an old iron age quarry/fortress and Roman encampment. When I have more experience and more stable weather, I hope to more filming there. I noticed that the Vimeo Vid does not show in HD on the forum. As you noted, it is best viewed in HD
