How to take off with Naza

So I got my naza gps all set up, went to try it today,a nd on take off, it rolled over onto its roof and broke two of my nice new APC props.

Humph.

Im wondering, since half throttle is hover and anything above is climb, would the correct way to take off be to take the throttle from low to half+ very quickly? It seems it just lifte the weight off the legs enough for one leg still on the ground to confuse it enough for it to try and correct and turn over.

Is wanging the stick from 0 to half+ the solution for smooth take offs?

Oh I should point out, this is not the first flight, so rotor directions etc, are all correct.

With the last half inch taken off two of the props, I flew it again and it flew quite well but was very unbalanced so i only hovered it for a second before putting it back down. Its all setup fine, it just randomly turned over, i assume because I was babying the throttle when I should have moved it faster...

The take off is better done swiftly but not quite wack it up 
these things are quite unstable when light on the skids and close to the ground, the prop wash has a huge affect on them, it just a case of getting used to the feel of it and feeding in the throttle at a decent rate, It gets easier has your confidence rises

I just blast 'em off the floor..... I might stop at a few feet or a few hundred depending on how I feel, don't pussy foot around near the point of weightlessness... bad things happen!

Yeah, that makes sense, I was just trying to be all gentle and take it off nicely like a real helicopter did lol. My fault. Atleast all it did was chip the ends off two rotors. 8 quid to replace, and will get it into the air quickly next time.

Are you taking off in GPS mode??? ::) or attitude?, or Manual? ..First is easy and stably second is fairly good and Manual is silly for maiden flight unless you can actually fly.
