FrSky R9m Lite

Is any one using the FrSky R9M Lite not the pro version?
I know they had issues when first released and the lite version is only 100mW but the R9M lite seems very cheap now and receivers are just £2 ish more than an R-XSR.
I'm not after ultimate range just thinking that at the cost it might provide a little more robust than 2.4Ghz?

Any ideas?

Cheers.
I try :-)

Yes, been using mine since they came out.  Most of my stuff flys on R9M now and it's fine.  Just as long as you pick the right firmware - don't use the non-flex firmware or you'll have problems flying with other people using R9M.  Flex has been just fine though.

The only pain is the placement of the antenna.  On quads I have it on one of the arms - this is good for at least 1Km.  On wings a put the antenna vertically through the wing. One wing has a slim+ with diversity so one antenna goes through and one goes horizontal on the leading edge.

Oh and bin the default antenna you get with the R9M lite and just buy the super8.

Ched, I have a R9M TX module sitting in my box'O'shite you can have if you want. You will just need to update to a known version and get some RXs to play with.

I tried it a while back and could never get on with it.

That's very kind AtomicLama. Unfortunately it's the lite or lite pro version I need as I use an x-lite. I realise I can get mounts but I quite like the x-lite being small  :D Very kind of you to offer though.

Just to let you know the R9M did have lots of 'issues' when first released. From what I have been reading once the flex firmware was sorted it is a good system. OK not as good as CrossFire but it's about a quarter of the price. In fact the Jumper T18 ( I think) has just been released with a built in 5 in 1 module that includes R9M!!!! Pity they used a naff internal antenna for 2.4Ghz and the external is R9M, they should have used 2 external antennas.

I read somewhere that 868Mhz has 2.6 times the range 2.4Ghz has for the same power and it has significantly better penetration. Plus it doesn't sit on a wifi band so should be better near wifi sources. I mainly fly on a local college field so there is lots of wifi and HV pylons over some of the field!

I hesitate to say but it might be worth you giving it another go with the newer Flex FW? Only reason I hesitate as I wouldn't want to be the one who downed or lost one of your aircrafts.

Thanks again.

Doh lite version, should have thought about what I was reading.  :banghead:  :D

As to giving it another go, no chance, the antenna connection on RX are tiny and fall apart just looking at them. I've been put of by FrSky releasing stuff that was not fit and using us the paying customers to test it for them. Also their recent changes to the protocols locking out 3rd party HW. That will make it's way into the R9 system in future.

Yes lower frequencies have lower propagation losses and the Lora technology used in the CRSF and R9 systems is great at low SNR noisy areas.

imagine the penetration & range the old 27/35MHz frequencies must have had!

just the 5.8GHz WiFi to worry about then  ;)
