Hi folks,

Looking at mounting a gimbal to my Quad for use with a Go Pro 3

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this Gimbal http://www.goodluckbuy.com/fr-60-brushless-camera-mount-gimbal-set-for-gopro-3-aerial-photography.html

also looking at this one, but like the fact the FR-60 has a better Go Pro Mounting:

Thoughts?

Cheers Todd

Hi boardnz and welcome to the forum I went with the rctimer gimbal and controller and Iam very pleased with the results so far and each new firmware it only gets better, the gimbals you linked to look fine the first one looks like it offers some good protection but Im not sure about there control board how good it is or if it could load the open source firmware like the rctimer one does  ~~  :beer2:

Just got one. Arrived today. I';ll be programming and mounting it tomorrow so will let you know. Also planning on doing a YouTube video comparing all 3 different brushless gimbals I have

Cheers for the info Gaza. Looked into the RCtimer option, but was a bit sceptical given some of the bad feedback they have on their own website...Also hoping for something a bit lighter, maybe FG or Carbon construction

From what I can tell they both have the Martinez V3 Controller? http://www.goodluckbuy.com/v3-brushless-mount-control-panelsensor-module-kit.html

Just found this post http://www.multi-rotor.co.uk/index.php?topic=2771.0 - so it looks like they have the same controller as the RCtimer?

Awesome powerlord look forward to see it, keep me posted!

New code uploaded last night so has to redo pid setup.

Couldn';t get anywhere then I remembered someone else on here saying that it came fully assembled but the IMO was on upside down...

The imu was a different type from my other 2 boards, but it was stuck on the bottom so it faces up and also to the side which seemed wrong.

Pulled it off. Rotated upside down and through 90 degrees and reattached. Now working fine.

I reckon since it did work out the box, they must have hacked the uploaded code to reverse the imu axises. Why is anyone';s guess.

So if you update firmware, you';ll need to reattach imu in correct orientation

Nice work powerlord! So otherwise working as expected? Hows the build quality, motors etc compared to the others you have?

powerlord

well. as I asked on another thread I can';t get the rc control bit working.

otherwise - i got mine ready built - and wires just sodered onto board - including the ';A1'; control onto the arduino chip which was weird.

it';s nice and light though, and motors are up to the job. It can fit a gopro1 or 2 on it too (ive stuffed my original HD on there as it';s on my APM quad which gets bashed about so didn';t want to stick HD1 or gp3 black on it*

I';d say its lighter weight and maybe not as powerful as the rctimer one, and not as flexible since you could stuff any small camera on the rctimer one really.

However, it';s pretty good. especially with the new 49r69 build which seems to allow a lot more torque onto the motors which helps a  lot.

it certainly beats the carbon fibre one i have which was pretty pants and needed new motors for it to be any use at all.

*as I found out today when I munted it into the top of my motorhome - smashing the skylight and sending bits of quad into the distance - including the gopro. case back and battery in different directions.... still works though :-)

Still trying to make my mind up here :), but really need to order it this week!

Did you manage to get the RC control working with the FR-60 yet and does your RCtimer have the RC control working?

Also what carbon model did you go for that didn';t work out? I see a new ones popped up on Goodluck buy that looks pretty good for the price... http://www.goodluckbuy.com/carbon-fiber-brushless-camera-mount-gimbal-set-for-pocket-camera-aerial-photography.html

really appreciate the help

Cheers

Rctimer rc control works. Not got around to getting fr60 working yet sorry.

Carbon one had too small motors on it IMHO - search eBay for brushless gimbal phantom and you';ll find it - on tapatalk to cant get link easily just now

Nice thanks for the info, just ordered the rctimer really keen on the RC controls so didn';t want to run the risk..Cheers
