Action camera FPV lead

I bought this cable about a year ago but the colour sheathing of the cables isn';t what I expected - or in the order expected.  It';s an FPV cable for an Xiaomi Yi action cam that powers the camera and provides video transmission (not sure about Audio - could be the white cable?).  It didn';t come with any paperwork and I thought I should check that my plan to wire it up is right before potentially killing the camera.  The Xiaomi Yi has a 5V input and the VTX positive output is 5V so that';s good.

The FX800T VTX I have has + - Video for the camera, and + - to power the VTX.  The Xiaomi Yi USB cable has White, Black, Yellow, Red.  Am I right in thinking the Red and Black cables go to the + -, the Yellow cable goes to Video, and the white cable doesn';t go anywhere?

After looking at other people';s homemade micro USB power cables for their Xiaomi Yi I';m more confused.  Their';s use the 2 outside cables for power, which in this case is White and Red.  I really don';t want to turn the camera to toast!  Anyone know the correct way I should wire it up please?

White is usually audio,  but with Chinese electronics it could be self destruct.

Hmm, I don';t know how to test the cable for + & -  Maybe I should ditch this wire and buy a new one.  Banggood sell a newer one that';s better quality from the looks of it, and it comes with 2 JST connectors attached for power and video.

The micro usb is a delicate thing. You have to look very carefully at any diagrams you find as some are from casing side others from the side you plug in etc..

Hopefully this is clear.

Remember that you can charge your Yi via a standard micro usb cable. So you can use a multimeter to test a normal cable while plugged in to a laptop, phone charger etc. BUT be careful as pins are small and you don';t want to short things out. Saying that maybe best to test with phone charger as if you destroy it it is cheap to replace!
I try :-)

Great share. Thanks. I think it';s easier and cheaper to buy a new cable that';s also better made.  I';ve been searching for where I got this one from all afternoon and I';ve finally found it.

https://hobbyking.com/en_us/fpv-cable-for-turnigy-cam-1pc-bag.html

It';s actually for Turnigy camera';s (that I also own but didn';t want to use for this build) and one of the reviewers says:

';Warning ! The video output color is. . . .White ! And not the yellow as one might believe.';

Without dismantling the cable I can';t know which of the 4 wires is soldered to four of the five pins, so I think I';ll just buy the new cable.   :(

Not sure how handy, or even if you have a multimeter, but you can ';buzz'; the pins out. You might need to wrap a very small piece of wire round the multimeter probe so it is small enough not too big to short other pins out.

Found this statement:  Yi Cam uses the USB No.4 pin as video(+) output, No.5 pin as GND.

So you should be able to buzz out pins to work out which colours are which.
I try :-)

When it comes to electronics and the proof of the past few days I';m less handy than I once thought!

I do have a multimeter though so I';ll definitely give it a go (prob tomorrow) and report my findings.  ~~
