menace patch vs immersion rc patch

hello im looking at upgrading my patch on my fatshark hd2 goggles, i currently have the menace patch and read it gives of 6.5dbi im assuming this is how powerful it is? the higher this number the longer the range?...the immersion rc patch has a dbi of 13...does this mean its better...the price is another thing to compare menace is only 9 quid and immersion is 50 quid...immersion is sold out everywhere only found 1 brittish supplier at the min....whats your take on these 2 patch antennas!?

The DBI is the gain, basically the higher it is he longer the range, yes, however it will tend to have a narrower field
From memory the 13dbi has somewhere like a 30 degree beam, this makes it pretty useless for racers, it is more appropriate to be mounted on a base station with a servo driven gimbal and gps tracking so it is always pointed at the craft automatically

Why are you upgrading your patch? What range are you getting?

I looked at both when buying a patch antenna but like you said the price difference alone made me go with the menace haven';t had any problems with it even out to a mile range etc

just rang makeitbuildit didnt speak to phil yet the guy was proper nice, he says for price defo the menace...and even for the actual quality of the patch id go with menace as he said we have tried em all on the furious true d (which i have with my hd2) and he said we found menace to be the all round best...so sticking with these meances! thanks for your replies as always guys
